hello, i dont know what am i doing wrong, i hope some one can help me, i have my rom.3ds in the extra files folder, then i apply the All_in_One.bat, everything goes smooth, at the end it says that my patched rom is now in the same file and to press any key, i do that but no new patched 3ds!. i dont know whats wrong i get no error or something.
Try the individual batch files. If those fail to create and extract to the "Extracted_ROM" folder, there's something wrong with your ROM (most likely your ROM is not decrypted)

I'm not really clear on how to randomize Umbra Moon. The instructions say
  • Follow the included instructions for building a CIA/3DS file. When you reach the part where you can randomize your wild encounters, say Yes and use PK3DS to randomize them.
But there is nothing about randomizing in the instructions for building a CIA/3DS file.
Any help would be appreciated.

Randomization takes place after you extract the files but before you rebuild the ROM. You can use the included pk3ds.exe to do this: point it at the Extracted_ROM folder.

So I should run All_In_One.bat to make the Extracted_ROM folder and then run pk3ds on it?

Edit: nvm, I figured it out.

Can't be bothered reading all 45 pages here so i don't know if this has been reported or not yet but the "legit" build of nova sun is not legit at all for island scan encountered pokemon or at least with this chikorita... just caught it at level 9 which can only be seen at lv 10 by legitimate means and it does not pass pkhex's legal check either, also putting the met level aside the relearn moves are also not there either.

Playing the leveled build. I'm actually liking the strategies the trainers use. Every battle is hard and exciting. But i'm really tired of the frequent backtracking to heal at pokemon center after almost every trainer battle. I'm only at the second island and money is hard to come by. Grinding is even worse, wild pokemons give meager exp. Any tips?

Buy Sacred Ash in the stores. Be more frugal with your money, spend less on in-battle healing items. Sell the Revives Hau gives you.

Hey I'm sorry if you've already answered this query but I've installed the Romhack using Homebrew (don't have an way to do the other methods) and I'm a complete laymen to these sorts of things. Basically when I try to launch the game right as it's finished loading the data screens the bottom screen goes red and my N3DS freezes.

I followed all the steps and when I did it with Rutile Ruby recently it worked perfectly and the steps seemed exactly the same for Umbra Moon apart from there being no CODE file to put in the HANS folder; is that what's causing it or did I do something else wrong? Thanks

**Side Note: When I was extracting the Moon ROM with Braindump it did say it failed to fully dump but I figured it was just a problem with the exefs file because the .bin file seemed to be all there.

As the Ultra Sun/Moon release approaches, here's a reminder.
  • I do not post "work in progress" or "beta" ROM hacks. I am not racing to be the first to release. My Version 1.0 is always intended to be a complete hack.
  • I will not post a project thread for Supernova Sun and Penumbra Moon until the initial release.
  • Project updates will happen in this thread, but they are not tied to a schedule.
  • ROM hack development is both dependent on my work and the tireless and often thankless work of people like Kaphotics, SciresM, and Evandixon for doing the actual hard stuff of figuring out how the ROM works and releasing tools for people like me to interface with the game.
  • I likely will not be updating Nova Sun or Umbra Moon once Ultra is out.
I hope everyone looks forward to playing Supernova Sun and Penumbra Moon!

Playing Umbra Moon expanded, latest patch. Game is great, except that every time I try to shop at a Poke Mart, I get a freeze and crash. Any tips? Rutile Ruby works flawlessly on the same 3DS XL, so not sure what the issue is. Played past the Trainer School to check if the second Poke Mart would work, but all of them crash.

Do you have Luma3DS? If no, you can't have edited shops because .CRO files can't be loaded on non CFWed consoles. If you do, make sure you have the latest version of Umbra Moon and Pokémon Moon is updated to the latest version.

I do have Luma 3DS, latest build 8.1. Will try updating Moon, already have the latest version of Umbra.

EDIT

Updating the game worked! I guess I was mixing up instructions, as I think Rutile Ruby warns not to update.

Nova Sun and Umbra Moon were too easy I never lost once unlike in Star Sapphire where I lost all the time. You need to up the levels of the opponents. Maybe it was my fault, for catching every Pokemon that I ran into that I hadn't caught before, and that made my level too high. But I think a lot of people do that. Too often I was a couple levels above my opponent when I should be lower than them or at worst equal. Try to do that in your new rom hacks.

You must have been grinding a lot or using pokemon that were traded in because I didn't have this problem, the battles were just as hard for me.

"it was too easy" is bad feedback. I'd need to see someone's team, battle strategy, etc. to make a judgement call.
The main offender is using items in battles. If you have a bulky team (such that the lead of an enemy team cannot 3-shot you) and spam Max Potions and Attack boosting setup moves, you will always win. Since the game naturally gives you a ton of Revives, that gives you a ton of money to use on buying potions. Money curve is something I'll be looking to address in Supernova Sun and Penumbra Moon, and changes I make there might end up being backported to Nova Sun and Umbra Moon.
Level vs Level isn't an accurate measure of difficulty, especially in Sun/Moon hacks that use Effort Values on Trainer AI Pokémon. When he brings up Rutile Ruby and Star Sapphire, the level curve in those games was such that the AI was usually ~5 levels above the player, but despite that appearance the player generally had more stats available thanks to EV gain.

Currently playing UM, still early into the game, I think, people are free to correct me, I think the trainers are somewhat smarter. Too early to say they're harder, but early trainers already sporting items, like a chef having a Cutiefly with leftovers. I'm struggling a bit because I only have 2 pokemon, not having an incentive to catch the available wilds at this point. I went up against an old woman using one Carbink and it restored all its HP with medicine, full restore or hyper potion, Hala has one of those, and a Makuhita spamming Sand Attack. At first I thought the games were easier because they heal you so much more than SM that the Pokemon Center is almost sidelined entirely, but I'm realizing it's the other way around. So you may have fun with this. Again, I only have a team of 2, by necessity, the teacher in the school has a starter with a type advantage over you, her Popplio vs. my Litten for example. Zorua's an early route mon, it's cool, I kept it. So I'm overleveled, at least by 5, but still having those issues due to my own lack of variety and coverage and honestly, slightly smarter AI.
