Have you ever met a 100 year old?

Seeing the how old are you thread I thought this a suitable spinoff of the concept.

To that end have you ever met a person that clocked 100 years old? Any stories you want to share relevant to that.

I probably have but it would have been in a nursing home for those not doing so well in the head and thus might have missed out on an enlightening conversation like I might have had with those some 20 years younger.

I had a great grandmother who was about 92 when she passed. Sweetest lady I knew and one of the toughest too. She got a black eye from falling about 6 months before she passed and she would sit in her chair with a big smile and say "I'm fine!"

I don't. Though sadly she passed earlier this year, she had many loving family and friends with her at the time.

All old people are Really sweet, some of them dont rage and stay very quiet. They live to talk so i really like Old People. More than Kids.

My mother works with senior citizens, and so she knows quite a few that are either on the cusp of 100, or a handful that are 100+ years old. The ones I've met are super kind old ladies, lovely people. One of my great grandmothers reached 95, though passed away last year, from Alzheimer's, though she still told all sorts of interesting stories right until the end. My other great grandmother is turning 96 this year, and she's doing great.

A conversation I had with her once, which might not make sense out of familial context, but amuses me to this day--I'll try to explain it.

She married a man named Jim, in which they divorced later on. She had two children with him, and then remarried. I was wearing a shirt that said "Long Beach California (where she was born) Physical Education". She took notice because of the town on the shirt, but then had trouble understanding what physical education meant. I told her "It's like Gym class, grandma". She looked at me without saying anything for a full minute. She then looked to her daughters, (who she hadn't remembered a mere 10 minutes ago) and shouted out "Jim was certainly their father, but not their dad!" Everyone in the room not only found it hilarious, but also touching that she could remember her daughters and first husband just from that one quip.

I had a god mother who was over 120. I was shocked when she passed. I didn't know people could live that long to be honest. Does guinness world records have the longest life recorded?

Re dementia. In what will probably be one of my greater understatements "it sucks". That said while I would much rather converse with someone which has all their marbles you do some get some cracking ones from people that are losing it. Around the time the memories might still be there (or randomly percolate up) but their inhibitions and filters (I live in the UK so it is a big deal here, especially among older people) start to go you get some fascinating stories that might have been buried deep, or half uttered/perverted in years before, or glimpsed when certain other words came up. Some of the best ones are when someone might have shunned or been shunned by their family (usually for stupid reasons -- my cousins have an Irish Catholic grandma, she married a truly wonderful protestant English doctor when she was over in the UK as a nurse, they completely and utterly cut her off which must have been horrific, however in more recent years they got some stories).

I don't think you can give a straight yes or no answer to that question. A lot of good and a lot of bad comes from hypothetical immortality. I figure it depends on the person you ask, as it will vary from person to person.

" forever" like nothing and make you die , or if you decide it's enough to end your own ? hahah
Idk must me interesting and sad at the same time... a lot to see and being able to do twice! a lot of people, see how stuf develops, HELP them to develop! wow *w*
but that point like if the eart explodes you gonna be floating forever in the universe bored until forever or idk xD

In your opinion.

If true immortality, I can't die under any circumstance: Terrible, I'll outlast the Earth and and everyone I ever see and know.

If relative immortality, I won't die of age, but can still die of illness or injury: It'd suck seeing my family and friends go as time went on. But it'd be pretty neat to see how far we can get in a few hundred years or longer. So I'd say a good thing if it's relative immortality.

Great uncle is 90 something now.

He's really sexist and got dementia.

I never really liked him.
