Dear GBAtemp,

So my cousin updated my n3dsxl and during the reboot it wouldn't boot. The device powers on with a black screen. I can access Luma (Im on version 5.0) and I can access Hourglass v1.1. I tried to backup from a systemnand but it says SD is not formatted? I have backups on a external HDD somewhere but I have no access to it till tomorrow. I am under the impression that my cfw, luma, alh9, hourglass and decrpyt9 are all out of date. Its been so long since I last looked into the files. Is there away to recover without loosing any data or going back to official 3ds systemnand? I am under the impression my emunand is messed up?

Download this and put it on the root of your SD card, after that boot your 3DS normally to see if it works.
If it did then consider this

Apparently from it telling you your SD isn't formatted it was most likely corrupted. Sorry to say but i think your Emunand is borked unless you backed up your EmuNAND. Since your able to boot it means your SD isn't corrupted but your EmuNAND is. Also holy hell 5.0?! You have been very much out of the loop and before you try to remake whatever you lost I reccomend this https://3ds.guide/a9lh-to-b9s

It's the newest way for CFW and trust me when I say you will be blown away by all the changes.

EDIT: Also maybe it also may be that 5.0 doesn't support the latest update, so don't mess with EmuNAND till you update to B9S and Luma 8.1

Nintendo started a ban wave about a month ago but it seems to have stopped.
Although you never know so you're on your own.
Be sure to disable Spot Pass and disabling the option that let's your friends are what you're playing on your 3DS.

Okay so when I try to load SD card on my sisters laptop, it won't even recognize. But when i put the sd card in my 3ds, I can load luma and hourglass...so the 3ds is reading it but not my laptop..how will I update luma then?

I think it's time to replace that dying SD card.

*b9s, and yes you should if you wish to continue updating your Luma version.

Well I should update luma right? I don't wanna have the system not boot after say an update. Unless v7.0.5 can support all updates?

Also i was reading the guide for updating to B9S, and there was a part about moving Emunand? Would I need to do that as well? I vaguely remember that during ALH9 setup, i am running on emunand?

You have a9lh and you are on the latest version of Luma that a9lh users can update to. To update your Luma version, you HAVE to update to b9s. I'm currently sitting on a v7.0.5 system with the latest firmware so it's safe to update to it as long as you have v7.0.5. During the a9lh setup, you should've gotten rid of your emuNAND. If you want to run just a sysNAND, which I recommend you do since there is no need for an emuNAND anymore, you should move your emuNAND over to your sysNAND and get rid of it.

Oh okay!! So I can just stay on v7.0.5 for the time being? I am only on ver. 11.3.0-36U. So its safe to update my firmware with Luma v7.0.5? Also I did follow the guide to get ALH9 and Luma to the dot, so I am assuming my emunad is my sysNAND?

Yes it's safe. Assuming you followed the guide to the dot, you should no longer have an emuNAND. But to test, turn off your system. Press and hold the Select button to open your Luma settings. Disable Autoboot SysNAND. If your system boots to the Home Menu, you still have an emuNAND. If it doesn't, make sure to re-enable that setting so that your system boots properly again. Apparently, this isn't true. Just go into system settings to see which NAND you are in.

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.

i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero
