I used the 3ds.guide this weekend to hack my 3DS XL on firmware 9.2. It was straightforward, but I have no idea what the different steps actually did. What does the DSP step near the end do?
It's weird that the guide basically teaches you how to install games.

The DSP step allows sound in homebrew apps.

If you mean system update you can do it whenever you want or even not do it at all

You don't need WiFi to factory reset

Yes i do :(. I mean, the console sent me a message saying it need to check with Wifi for a factory reset.

Anyway, back to the question, can i do it now? Should i install FBI, homevrew first?
Reset first, you'll have to do all of that over again after the reset so not much point doing it now.

not using 7-zip are you (hint use 7-zip)

yes

i used winzip or winrar... i'll try 7zip, thx for suggesting :)

It doesn't matter where you got them (Also Billy's repo is normally a good place to go). Files downloaded from the internet can be corrupted at any time, that doesn't always mean the file is bad. When downloading, unzipping, transferring or moving files from one place to another there is always a chance for the file to lose integrity and become corrupted. Most of the time it happens when transferring from one drive to another via wi-fi but it can happen anytime.

Use another program to unzip the archives that hold the .CIA files. Also if you're using that repo you'll notice large games are split between two or more archives. If you're pulling the .CIA from part 1, it's not a full file so it's not going to work. You need to extract the .CIA from the last part of the archive to get the full file.

well noted master, i'll try

Check the "About PKHeX" section under "Options" and go to "Shortcuts". PKHeX can do a hell of a lot more than people think :D

Very true :) But it doesnt sort specefic boxes. So it would mix up my events with my shiny collection haha.

Will my 5 month old backup still work with my CFW 3ds? I didn't update my 3ds or didn't do anything significant to it. Just wondering 'cause my SD card got hit by another error and I'm trying to restore the data with my backup.
