based on the guide I need to have a file named ntrboot.firm on the 3DS' micro so it's contents is flashed on the ARDSi(that has a black sticker and a micro sd card port?)
but apparently ntrboot can't be flashed unless it's an old 3ds or hacked?
I keep geting a blackscreen (or turns off after I press the buttons and turn it on as the power button turns on the off) when i try the magnet hax similar to other people but I 've gotten no info on how to solve the matter
Is there something I can do to get around this?

So why exactly can't the R4i Gold here be restored without a hardware flasher? Does patching the FW with the .nds file remove the ability to flash firmware?

ARDS is being sucky and either partially connects or connects for a second and then disconnect. Anyone know why it's doing this? Drivers are up to date and changing cords does nothing. Here are 2 videos of it.

Video 1: It connects and displays the codes, then disconnects after a second. DS just says "listing content."

Video 2: It connects, but no codes are loaded. Bottom screen simply displays "Error!" on a loop.

So I managed to flash my ARDS card, worked flawlessly on a 2ds, Now trying to use it on a n3ds jpn version (bricked) all I get is a black screen and it turns off after the buttons are released. Something is happening though I would think cause its dumps the otp.bin, boot9.bin and boot11.bin before it turns itself off. What's going wrong here?

Any plans to get the yellow sticker ARDSi to work, if possible? My red sticker ARDS doesn't connect to my computer but the yellow one works fine.

Quick question, in step 13 (AR DSi) there is the stuff written bout the 2ds in brackets. So what exactly do you have to do cuz i dont understand, and does it/do you think it would apply to the new 2ds as well?

If anyone HAS done the AR DSi method with a new 2ds then please tell me what you did.

I have finally decided to give up on the AR DS. I got my computer to see it ONCE. Never again. The "connect" button never shows up on my DS lite and I'm sure it's because I tried to install the updated drivers. The original drivers "usbio.sys" worked on XP. The ActionReplay driver doesn't, and it digs itself so far into windows that it won't ever go away.
And don't get me started on Windows 7. Stupid registry permissions. Almost a week of trying to get that piece of garbage to connect and all I get is Windows screaming at me that a device on the USB bus has caused a power surge. Eff Windows, eff Action Replay, I'm getting a flash cart and taking a hammer to these cursed things.

Edit: I took a step back and re-evaluated the situation. After comparing the firmware files Code Manager downloaded with a dump of my device, I have discovered there is a problem with the device firmware. More on that later.

It just means the old 2DS doesn't need a magnet wit the sleep button option, however, the new 2ds xl does requires a magnet. Just proceed wit the key combo as u wud after putting the old 2ds to sleep wit the sleep button or a magnet on a new 2ds xl.

It turns out I have one ARDS with corrupted firmware. Windows Device Manager finds it every time, but the connect button on the DS is gone. I finally found my "bricked" ARDS and was able to boot the corrupt ARDS, then swap devices and flash firmware. I flashed 1.55 to the bricked ARDS and it works fine now. Being able to use them side by side I can now see that the v1.54 on the other device is corrupted. The connect button is missing, the save button is missing from settings, the erase button is missing from the code selection screen, and if you manually enter a code it flashes "Insert Action Replay" on the screen. So now I have to figure out how to get that connect button to show up. Funny thing is if I boot that device with 1.54 and swap in the other, the button displays. I've tried initiating the connection and swapping devices back but it kicks back to the ARDS home screen as soon as I do. Any ideas on how I can get another shot at flashing firmware on the 1.54?

Edit: No, I cannot use the 1.71 firmware. Code Manager says it's not a valid firmware. Versions 1.71 and 1.60 have AR2M at the beginning of the header, while 1.55 and 1.54 have FIRM at the beginning. But codejunkies site says that 1.71 is for all ARDS except ME.

There's now a build of NTRBoot flasher that has support for dumping R4 SDHC flash images. If we were to dump the flash and patch the updaters to work with NTRBoot (if that's even possible, some guy on YouTube says they got this to work on a R4 SDHC dual core cart) like the R4iGold, do you think we'd be able to restore the flashcart's stock functionality after? Or does doing this change the read and write commands?

The new build is for r4isdhc com Dual core and r4i-sdhc com carts and will not read/write/work with R4iGold cc and r4isdhc hk Dual Core carts.

r4isdhc hk Dual Core != R4isdhc com Dual core.

After attempting this for quite some time I've decided to give up (as did many other users), it's a broken mess that doesn't work and should be avoided until fixed.

I loaded the patched dsi code manager, and flashed the card, however NTRBoot will not load, the screen stays blank then loads home screen.

Disclaimer:
From this point onwards, you *proceed on your own risk*. While the instructions below have been tested with no issues at all, unexpected stuff may happen. It may even be you doing something wrong. I am not responsible for bricked flashcards or any other problems arising from following my instructions.

Flashing ntrboot to r4igold.cc:

WARNING:
This has been tested on r4igold.cc with version 5.06 and q-mate trial header only. I currently do not have a way to recover the flashcart to stock (except with a hardware SPI writer). Use at you own risk!

View attachment 98493
  1. Download "Update_4.5.0_r4igold3DS.nds"
  2. Apply "r4igoldcc_nocheck_ntrboot.firm.ips" to it with LunarIPS
  3. Copy to flashcard
  4. Run it from the flashcard menu and press A
  5. It will install b9s on your flashcart
  6. Put flashcard in (turned off) 3DS then press START+SELECT+X+magnet on the sleep sensor (if 2DS, switch it to sleep)+hold POWER button
  7. This will load "ntrboot.firm" from 3DS SD

Flashing ntrboot to ARDS(ez):

View attachment 98495
  1. Unzip and install ARDS code manager PC software
  2. Go to "<where you installed code manager>\Datel\Action Replay Code Manager\"
  3. Copy "ActionReplayCodeManager.exe" to another directory
  4. Apply "ARDS_arcm_nocheck.ips" to it with LunarIPS then rename it to "ActionReplayCodeManager_patched.exe"
  5. Copy the renamed exe alongside the original one in "<where you installed code manager>\Datel\Action Replay Code Manager\"
  6. Connect ARDS to PC
  7. Plug the ARDS into a DS (might work with 3DS but i'm not sure you can recover with a 3DS...if it works with a 3DS..good for you :D)
  8. Start the patched exe
  9. Apply "Ar.firmware.1.71ntrboot.firm.ips" to "Ar.firmware.1.71original.bin" with LunarIPS then rename it to "Ar.firmware.1.71ntrboot.bin"
  10. Drag and drop the patched bin to the "software upgrade" button in ARDS code manager
  11. Wait to upload to your ARDS
  12. Accept to flash
  13. Now you have b9s installed on your ARDS
  14. Put ARDS in (turned off) 3DS then press START+SELECT+X+magnet on the sleep sensor (if 2DS, switch it to sleep)+hold POWER button
  15. This will load "ntrboot.firm" from 3DS SD

ARDS(ez) restore:
  1. If you want to recover your ARDS to original condition you need another flashcard + a DS
  2. Start DSARv00.nds from the flashcart
  3. Eject the flashcart
  4. Plug the ARDS to USB then plug ARDS to DS
  5. Start "<where you installed code manager>\Datel\Action Replay Code Manager\ActionReplayCodeManager.exe"
  6. Drag and drop "Ar.firmware.1.71original.bin" to the "software upgrade" button
  7. Wait to upload to your ARDS
  8. Accept to flash

Flashing ntrboot to ARDSi:

  6. Plug the ARDSi to USB
  7. Start the patched exe
  8. Click on the 4 colored dots on upper-left corner of the app
  9. Select "About Action Replay DSi Code Manager..."
  10. Click "Reset Hardware"
  11. When finished unplug ARDSi
  12. Now you have b9s installed on your ARDSi
  13. Put ARDSi in (turned off) 3DS then press START+SELECT+X+magnet on the sleep sensor (if 2DS, switch it to sleep)+hold POWER button
  14. This will load "ntrboot.firm" from 3DS SD

ARDSi restore:
  1. To recover start "<where you installed code manager>\Datel\Action Replay DSi Code Manager\ActionReplayCodeManager.exe" then plug ARDSi to USB
  2. Repeat ARDSi steps 8 through 11
  3. If for some reason your ARDSi doesn't work as before..unzip and install "ARDSi-FirmwareUpdate-1.4.5"
  4. Run ARDSi Firmware Update and update
