Hacking eShop access after region changing on a new N3DS - yes or no?

Hi everyone,

I've been browsing various threads here for a while now regarding this topic and just can't seem to find a definitive answer. On a new N3DS that has yet to access the eShop, will region changing still block eShop access? The guide on 3ds.guide appears to say it should be fine, but there are still people here that say their eShop access got blocked.

The reason I ask this is currently I'm in Japan, and a new N3DS LL console here costs noticeably less than in the US (around $175), and if region changing doesn't remove eShop access I could simply buy a console here and save a few bucks (and also not have to wait until I get back to the US to play).

Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Buy a Switch.
I believe it to be a hella lot cheaper there,
Plus region free.

If their second hand shop ones would be cheap and in a very good condition,
As their second hand definition is much stricter than rest of the world.

Anyhow, I've region changed before, but I never managed to get the eshop service to work. :/
(so I ended up using free shop)

Edit:
2 friends of mine bought their n3dsLL second hand, couldn't even tell that it wasn't new.
It was also cheaper cause "the box was slightly dented, Hence not in perfect condition" lol.

I bought a N3DS from Amazon.co.jp in January and immediately region-changed it to US. It was not able to access the US eShop.

I think new N3DS consoles, at least Japanese ones, have a few pre-installed things. That essentially blocks it from other regions' eShops.

That's a bummer. I was hoping to be able to start playing now instead of having to wait until August when I get back to the US, but I guess I don't really have a choice.

Read all the comments in that thread before you made decision whether or not to buy a JPN console...
there are several users contributing with their own findings.
One user said by just going into eshop and delete your account will do the job, but i cant assure you it will work coz i did not try that.
What i tried is what the OP of that thread listed. I now have a working JPN eshop account on an EUR N3DS.

Deleting the eShop account was not enough in my case. Transferring to another JPN console should probably work, though. That does require a second console to transfer to, though.

After you region changed your console, were any other services (YouTube app, etc) also affected in addition to the eShop? Also, do you know if it's possible to regain access to the eShop if the console's region is changed back to its original region?

AFAIK the only thing you get locked out from is the eShop and the few other things that require an NNID (like Pokemon Bank). You aren't banned from the eShop, the console is merely locked to the original region's eShop. What I usually do is make an EmuNAND with the original region, then region change my SysNAND. That way, you still have access to the original region.

Basically I have a JPN new 3ds system which I installed cfw then region changed it to US (as I don't know any Japanese). The problem is that I cannot download any content from the US eShop. What can I do to have pokebank app and other content like games (and their updates)? is there a way I can use eshop in the current cfw'd console? The only way to access the eShop and Pokebank in that situation is to access the Japanese versions in a Japanese NAND. Your best bet is to use homebrew alternatives such as PKSM.

Use freeShop for updates, it'll work fine.

You need to select the installed games tab and then the game itself. It should show an option to download the update.

If not, make sure you have configured freeShop with title keys.

Hey I realize this is an old thread but I just got an import console from Japan and followed the guide to hack it (don't understand Japanese so it took awhile with google translator). On hacking the console it required me to create an account in order to download the free game from the eShop. I then made a backup and region changed my console to USA. From what I'm understanding, would creating a emuNAND from the Japan backup and deleting the account unlink my console from the eShop?

Ok I tried deleting the NNID on Japan nand and formatting and then reflashing region change nand but now I get error 007-2001 in eshop.
