Nintendo Increases SNES Classic Inventory, NES Classic Returning to Stores

SNES_Mini_Box.jpg

The NES Classic was a monumental success when it released last year. Originally it was a "limited edition" product, and the number manufactured was relatively low. Scalpers tore into them, sometimes selling them for over $500 on various auctions sites as they were sold out everywhere. Well, those unlucky few who didn't manage to nab a NES Classic can rejoice; Nintendo is manufacturing and shipping more NES Classic's to stores in 2018!

Along with this news, Nintendo also announced that the inventory for the SNES Classic is also being increased to help avoid the same scalping situation as last year.

Due to incredible demand for the upcoming Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system, Nintendo plans to ship the retro-inspired product into 2018. Originally, shipments were announced to cease at the end of this calendar year.
...
Next summer, Nintendo will also bring back the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system with new shipments. More information about the timing of the return of NES Classic Edition will be announced in the future.

Wow, Nintendo? Doing something right? How did that happen?

Also, Nintendo Life has confirmed this as well
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/20...ic_mini_and_increasing_snes_classic_inventory

For what it's worth, the scalping game will still be pretty strong. First off, Nintendo have said they're producing more for 2018. Now what about those kiddies that want one for Christmas? Scalper heaven, my dear friend. And when Nintendo say they're making more for 2018, this could be just the same as them saying they'd up their stock for the initial wave of SNES Minis. Oh boy, they sure didn't sell out just as fast, and didn't get scalped half as bad lol.

In all honesty though, this is definitely a good thing. It means the patient ones among us can wait for the later wave and pick one up if we're quick-fingered enough. In an odd way, it satisfies every party. Scalpers can still scalp, consumers can get their toy for RRP (hopefully maybe).

Regardless, it won't be as difficult to get one, had they stuck with the original 2017 only initially. Having more stock through 2018 will make things a bit less crazy methinks. Never thought I'd see Nintendo actually do that.

When the NES mini was being scalped left, right and centre (hah 'when'), I imported a Famicom Mini. It was cheaper to import than to buy in the UK, with prices going around £100-£170 at the time.

The mini was about £52 (seems Yahoo Auctions Japan didn't have as big a problem with scalpers), shipping was about £12 and customs was about £20.

The lower price was pretty convenient for me since I far preferred the Famicom mini over the NES mini :P

I've got a preorder but i'm taking this news with a grain of salt because they also said that way back then with the NES mini and those were just PR lies. Good be true but i advise to take this with a grain of salt.

Come on, they even said more units were coming and everybody would have the chance to buy one and they didn't. They stopped making them and give a totally different statement after that. And scalpers didn't beat me to it since i got one sorry dude

The last statement doesn't change what I said. Good on you for getting one, not that it's important.

It does. They said the same thing with the NES, made promises they didn't keep and then changed their statement entirely after that so it def does.

So what if I am? Anyways, scalpers will still be an issue even with the increased stock.

Well Nintendo can easily combat this by only allowing 1 to 2 reservations per order and per person but by seeing the large amount of money they're making from scalpers + the increase in the branding of their name by selling out, well i doubt they will.

This. Something for the retailers to stick to as well.

Didn't Walmart cancel all preorders at one point to enforce this? Oo

Well Nintendo has to force retailers to do so. A retailer still has to listen to the demands of the seller so as long as Nintendo doesn't enforce shops to do this well nothing is gonna change and happen. You'll see the same shit happening over and over again and why ? Because Nintendo makes a shitload of money from scalpers while increasing the branding of their own name by selling out. It's a win win situation for them anyway and that's how they acted with the NES mini so that's also why i'm taking everything with a grain of salt Nintendo is claiming and saying.
