Hello everyone!

As the title says, I'm looking for some feedback and possibly some help in creating a 2nd Emunand and preforming a Region Change on that Emunand.

Basically I want to create an Emunand that runs with a JPN Region.

Right now I have a N3DS on 11.5-U Sysnand set up with 8.1.1 Luma. I also have an 11.2-U Emunand that I use for my Gateway card. (Yes I know, Gatewait is evil, blah-blah-blah.) I'm also well aware of the Region Free functionality, but in this case, it doesn't help. Long story short, I play a lot of pokemon and have been trying to collect as many shiny events as legitimately as possible, but when trying to use JPN wondercards, the results come back tagged as illegal due to the Country and Sub-Region not matching up with the 3DS Region.

Anyway, I was looking at THIS thread regarding a Multi-Emunand tool and was hoping to get some feedback or suggestions on other possibilities.

I'm also a little uncertain about the Region Change itself. I'm sure it would be a lot simpler to just make the region change on my current Emunand or Sysnand, but I'm not sure how it might effect the use of my Gateway Card, and in the case of Sysnand, I don't want to loose my Nintendo Network ID or PokeBank subscription. If someone could help alleviate any of those fears, I might be inclined to just forget about the 2nd Emunand, but I think having an Emunand in the JPN Region would be beneficial to me down the line.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

It's possible yes.

But you could just spoof your region and language etc, with luma for specific games can't you?

Swapping to luma may be faster than creating a new emunand and region changing it.

Once set up, you can use luma and gw on the same nand, no big problems.

I've actually tried that which leads to the Illegal pokemon data. It does change my Langage and 3DS Region to JPN, but the Country and Sub-region still shows USA and Pennsylvania, which obviously is not part of the JPN 3DS Region.

I'm pretty sure Luma region emulation can now spoof those too.

But yes, you can make a second EmuNAND. You even already linked the tool to do so. Boot the second EmuNAND by holding L + D-Pad Right when booting Luma.

You can spoof the Country and Sub-Region?! How? The Options and Usage Wiki only mentions Language and Region.

Enable game patcher: Enables the following features:
  • The region/language emulation feature allows some games which need a specific language to be set to work, and DLCs for foreign games to load. To use it:
    • Create a folder named titles inside luma.
    • Create a folder with the game's title id as the name (look them up on www.3dsdb.com) inside titles.
    • Create a file named locale.txt in the game's folder.
    • Inside the file,
      • Put 3 characters for the region ("JPN", "USA", "EUR", "AUS", "CHN", "KOR", "TWN").
      • Put an empty space.
      • Put 2 characters for the language ("JP", "EN", "FR", "DE", "IT", "ES", "ZH", "KO", "NL", "PT", "RU", "TW").
    • For example, to play Pokémon™ Y in Japanese language and region:
      • Create 0004000000055E00/locale.txt.
      • Put in JPN JP.
      • Save.
As for using the Tool I linked, I'm having some problems with it. First of all, do I need to make a new partition on my own or is the tool supposed to make it for me? Also it doesn't seem to accept the Nand backup I made with GodMode9. It says "Invalid 3DS Nand dump. Filesize (1300234240 bytes) is invalid."

From the Luma 8.0 release notes:
Better language emulation:
  • Language (and region) emulation should now work for all games
  • You can now specify a country (2 letter code) and a state ID (2-digit hex integer), for example: EUR FR FR 01

I guess the wiki wasn't updated.

As for your issues with the Multi-EmuNAND tool, I am assuming you have a N3DS with a larger (~1.8GB) NAND? I'm not sure you can combine Gateway EmuNANDs with RedNANDs. Try it with a full NAND dump instead (S:/nand.bin in GodMode9).

Ok, I'll see about making a full Nand dump if this Better language emulation doesn't work.

So since I'm trying for a Japan emulation, I'm guessing I'd use something like JPN JP JP 01?

Also is there any list specifying what State IDs represent which locations?

Something like that, yeah.
I haven't found one.

I guess I'll just have to play around with it and use PKHex to check the results. If the State IDs are listed in alphabetical order I'm thinking 41 would be Tokyo, so I'll try that.

Thanks for the tip! I'll let you know how things work out in a few minutes.

Keep in mind that it uses hexadecimal (41 in hexadecimal is 29).

The Better Language Emulation works like a charm with this added Country and State ID!

Apparently 29 = Fukuoka but that's not a problem.

I'm pretty sure if I edit a mon in PKHex and check the Hex in PKSM, I can figure out what to change it to. XD

Thanks again @squall14716 ! You saved me a lot of hassle. :yay3ds:

Edit: Apparently the ID for Tokyo is 02.
