Unfortunately I'm almost unable to do any further work on this modpack. The environment I was using for developing it was a Virtual Machine running on my laptop, and when I built my new computer the entire VM became inaccessible. I could use my public download of my own mod and a fresh ROMFS extraction to kind of work on it more, but all of my notes about the more technical details are lost, permanently. Maybe if Miitopia had better public documentation (this is partly my fault for not sharing, I realise...) I could do it again, but there was a lot of specificity in terms of audio channels and looping that I just don't have the time or motivation to figure out again for a near-dead game.

If there is a sequel or spiritual successor for the Switch then I will pick up the mantle and recreate this mod there (with extra/newer music) but as of now there will be no more updates. Sorry

Alright! It's time for my first ever public mod release, Miisona. I've worked on this for some time, and thanks to some GBATemp members I finally got this going in full swing!

What is Miisona?

Miisona is a music mod for Miitopia which replaces the game's music with some of the best tracks from the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series.

How far along is the progress?

  • Finish Reducing File Size of All Audio Files
  • Fix Looping Issues on Some Tracks

Notes:
- Miisona is developed for and tested on the USA and European copies of Miitopia. This, however, does not mean that it won't work on Japanese. If you encounter bugs, or if it just straight out does not work, I am open to collaboration to fix it.

- Miisona is supported by Old 3DS and New 3DS. Some users have reported issues on the "old" 2DS (even though it should functionally be the same as Old 3DS).

- The Miisona modpack is, and will be, released as a LayeredFS mod (usable with Luma CFW, or NTR CFW's OnionFS) and will not be released in any other format officially. However, you have my permission to mod it into a .cia file as long as you link back to me in the release.

Demonstration Video:
I have portrait-orientation video as much as the next guy...but it was all I could do, and it fits the 3DS tall nature better anyway.

The video is probably gonna be low volume for it. I don't have a capture card and my router isn't fast enough for NTR capture so this is the best I can do :P
Make sure to look over the track list above for the full amount!

FAQ:
Can I add more music to the pack?
On your download of the mod? Sure, why not? If you mean that you want to add more music to my version, then go ahead and get it working on your console, send me the file and it's location in the file structure, and I'll see if I want to add it.

l want more music to be added but I don't know how to mod the game myself. Can you do it for me?
It depends. I'm very open to suggestions but it does take some time to do a track, and that can quickly add up. Read the "Miisona Limitations" section, and if it still applies to what you want, post and tag me in the thread and I'll see what I can do.

Can I use the bcstm files in your mod for another project?
Mhm, that's fine. You don't have to, but I would appreciate a link back to this project.

Why did you make this?
I really love the Persona series of games, and have been having fun with Miitopia. Therefore, I figured a somewhat combo of the two would work really well.

Does this work with HANS?
Simple Answer: No
Long Answer: Maybe, but I'm not going to test it and I'm not going to debug issues with HANS. Sorry.

I like this. How can I help?
I need testers with Old 3DS/2DS consoles, and testers with European and Japanese copies. If you can contribute by helping me debug, that'd be great.

I also need save files. If you have a JKSM save file backup right before a boss fight, then please send me that so I can test the boss BGM.

Miisona Limitations:

Miisona will not have fan-made remixes added in.
This is not meant to put down the work of fans, however I want to keep the music official. Persona 4 Dancing All Night remixes, and other Persona official remixes are fair game and may be added.

Miisona is a strictly music/sound hack.
I do not plan and will likely not hack any models, images, or anything else. This is for music and maybe sound effects later on. If you want to make a Persona-themed graphics hack, I am open to collaboration.

Currently, Miisona is a huge mod.
I use homebrew tools to make the bcstm files. Most of them have been reduced to 1600hz, which is just about what the extent of the 3DS speakers can produce. Regardless of my compression, the 7z archive and the unarchived files are hefty. I recommend at least 750mb free on your SD card to use Miisona.

Issue Reporting:

If you wish to report an issue with the mod, please give the following info:
  • Luma 3DS Version/OnionFS Version
  • 3DS Firmware Version
  • Console Region
  • Game Region
  • Console Model
  • Whether you have successfully gotten other LayeredFS mods to work
Known Issues:
- One 2DS user has reported crashing with battle BGM.
- Some tracks loop awkwardly.

Downloads:
Due to site-wide rules, I cannot link to my modpack directly, but I can link to my website which has the links on it. I can link to my home page, and then you can find the sub-page (it won't be too hard, I promise).

Here is my website!

Installation:
Miisona is a standard LayeredFS mod. Inside the release .7z file is a "romfs" folder. Simply make a folder in your SD:/luma/titles named the title ID of your region's game, then place the romfs folder in that new folder.
For example, if I had the American copy, my layout would be
SD:/luma/titles/00040000001b4e00/romfs

USA: 00040000001b4e00
JPN: 0004000000178800
EUR: 00040000001b4f00

Enjoy!

Please note: this mod does not have any AP checks in it.
Regardless, Miitopia is a great game and I urge you to buy it if you enjoy it.
I will not give support to users that have admitted to using an illegitimate copy of Miitopia.
Second, the Persona soundtrack spans lots of games and is a great set of songs, and the series is also worth your money if you haven't experienced it yet.

Currently, all the battle music in the game has been changed. This includes random encounters, rare enemies, and boss fights. However, the tracks are subject to refinement and change.

Current Track Changes:

Battle Music
  • Random Encounter Battle World 1-6 ➡ Your Last Surprise (Persona 5)
  • Rare Monster Encounter ➡ Time To Make History (Persona 4 Golden Version)
  • Sub-Boss Battle ➡ Time To Make History (Persona 4 (Akira Remix)
  • Big-Boss Battle ➡ Keepers of Lust (Persona 5)
  • Dark Lord Battle ➡ Behind The TV (Persona 4 (Lotus Juice Remix)
  • Black Sage Boss ➡ Shin Mitsuo Tensei (Persona 4 Golden Version)
  • Dark Lord 2 Battle Phase 1 ➡ Life Will Change Instrumental (Persona 5)
  • Dark Lord 2 Battle Phase 2 ➡ Life Will Change Instrumental (Persona 5)
  • Dark Lord 2 Battle Phase 3 ➡ Reach Out To The Truth (Persona 4 Golden Version)
  • Dark Lord 2 Battle Phase 4 ➡ Reach Out To The Truth (Persona 4 (Dancing on Persona Stage Remix)
  • Battle Event ➡ Reach Out To The Truth Instrumental (Persona 4 Golden Version)
  • Battle (Sea Area) ➡ Price (Persona 5)
  • Battle (Ice Area) ➡ Muscle Blues (Persona 4 Golden Version)
  • Battle (Cyberpunk Area) ➡ Shin Mitsuo Tensei (Persona 4 Golden Version)
  • Battle (Cloud Area) ➡ Heaven (Persona 4 Golden Version)
  • Battle (Wonder Area) ➡ Okaerinasaimase! Goshujin-sama♡ (Persona 5)
  • End of Battle Music ➡ Persion (Persona 4 Golden Version)

Planned for Version 0.2:
  • Inn Music
  • Rock-Paper-Scissors Music
  • Prize Wheel Music
  • Eating Music/SFX

Notes:
- Miisona is developed for and tested on the USA copy of Miitopia. This, however, does not mean that it won't work on Japanese and European copies. If you encounter bugs, or if it just straight out does not work, I am open to collaboration to fix it.

- Miisona is developed for and tested on New 3DS. This, however, does not mean that it won't work on the Old 3DS/2DS consoles. Again, if you encounter bugs, or if it just straight out does not work, I am open to collaboration to fix it.

FAQ:
Why is there no Persona 3 music?
Simple. I haven't played Persona 3. I plan to change that soon, but for now the pack contains no Persona 3 music because I simply haven't heard any of it.

Can I add more music to the pack?
On your download of the mod? Sure, why not? If you mean that you want to add more music to my version, then go ahead and get it working on your console, send me the file and it's location in the file structure, and I'll see if I want to add it.

Currently, Miisona is a huge mod.
The download is 150mb archived, but the unarchived size is around 390mb. When the music lineup is complete I will begin work on compression to save lots of file space.

Issue Reporting:

If you wish to report an issue with the mod, please give the following info:
  • Luma 3DS Version/OnionFS Version
  • 3DS Firmware Version
  • Console Region
  • Game Region
  • Console Model
  • Whether you have successfully gotten other LayeredFS mods to work
Known Issues:
None so far! But heaven knows that will change with the public release.

Downloads:
The download link is from clicking on the banner at the top, but just in case:
Version v0.1 Download
Please, please, please report broken links to me by PM. Nobody likes a project that you can't get!

Installation:
Miisona is a standard LayeredFS mod, however the TitleIDs of the game and the installation instructions are included in the download regardless. Make sure you have Luma game patching on.

Enjoy!

Please note: this mod does not have any AP checks in it.
Regardless, Miitopia is a great game and I urge you to buy it if you enjoy it.
I will not give support to users that have admitted to using an illegitimate copy of Miitopia.

I love this :)

The song is called "Last Surprise"
You're right, my bad. Will be fixed soon.
Nice, any ingame videos of it? Will use this when I get started with Miitopia, thanks for the good work!
There will be soon. I've had lots and lots of requests through PMs and replies on GBATemp and Reddit from people who want Persona 3 music. The next version will contain some, and then I will make demonstration videos. The next version is uploading now. Thanks :)

I've been meaning to try out Miitopia, so this might be the kicker to go ahead and get it. I love the P2 duology so seeing music from it planned is exciting!

Thanks for your work on this.

Hoo boy I was playing P4G and P5 recently and this here I'm very looking forward to playing. Kinda a shame I don't see "Blooming Villain" or "A New World Fool" on the list. However it might not match the games theme so oh well.

sorry for the "not so kind" word, but you can't share music and data from a game, Unless of course you made the music yourself and didn't extract the files from a game or disc.
the users have to get these files themselves from a Persona game (or elsewhere than GBAtemp).

Even if it's a nice idea and it would be fun to get new music and you probably worked a lot on it, it's still providing copyrighted song files.
I won't delete your first post as it would not be fair, I'll wait tomorrow or until you read it*. I'll let you see if you can find a new way to release your packages.
for example, you could keep your thread with list of available packs you worked on, but provide additional music pack files using another way than direct link here.

* I removed the links.
After checking its content, there's no tool at all, it's just a package full of game's file.

Ok, I understand. Sorry about that. When you say "another way, then direct link here" I guess I'm a bit confused because wouldn't that also be considered linking to copyrighted files? Thanks for the not removing the post straight away and giving me a chance to fix things. I'll edit the post to reflect the situation while I figure out where to go next.

a strategy I've seen used on here is creating a website for yourself (any free hosters will do, for example Google Sites), hosting the download link on there, and telling people to go find it on your site.

Sounds good, but then how will people find it now? It likely won't be indexed or searchable by Google quickly.

you can link the main page of your site, just not the exact post the download is in.

So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.
