HI THERE!

i used dml a long time, but recently my sd card has no more free space for games and i decided to switch to dm.

i have a problem with my cfg usb loader and dios mios. i installed dm with a wad from dm lizard and when i started a gc game (after i used dm toolbox): black screen.

and YES my HDD is FAT32 32KB Clustersize (2TB) and,
yes i use the newest cfg usb loader and dm (v2.11), ALSO
my gc games are good dumps since i can load them with nintendont ( but i don't want to, because dm boots faster)
dm is installed on ios 249 (i tried ios 236 too)

i also checked if dm is installed with usb loader gx credit screen, it was installed and it was displayed there, but NOT in the cfg usb loader settings screen (only devoluton). if i use dml it works perfectly fine with cfg but my 32 GB sd card is full, so i put all gc games on my FAT 32 HDD \games\.

did i make any mistakes, or did i forget to uninstall something? could there be some stuff from dml, that i didnt uninstall or so, which crashes?

it's not installed on 249 or 236. at best, it's installed "using" 249 or 236.
DM is installed in the MIOS slot, it doesn't matter which IOS you used for the wad manager to work. as long as the wad manager could install it, then it's fine. nowaday, wad managers don't even use cIOS anymore, they work with the official IOS58.

some game work better if they are raw, not modified or scrubbed or aligned, etc.
I think you have the option in DMToolbox to just copy/rename, without editing the ISO's data.
Or you can copy the game yourself on your FAT32 partition.

You can't forget to uninstall something, the Wii doesn't care what you have installed elsewhere. as long as you installed DM it already replaced DML, they are overwritten as there is only one MIOS slot. you can have only one at a time, either DM or DML or Quadforce.

Did you try booting a game with DM using USBLoaderGX?
you told you checked with it, but not if it's working or not.
note that USBGX require the game to be in a subfolder (games//game.iso)

Set the game mode to "MIOS" in the settings, it should be that option by default, but just in case you used nintendont previously don't forget to set it back to MIOS.
it will detect the MIOS is "DM" and will know it has to launch games from USB. Though, it will also list your games on SD, you can disable that if you want (in the settings, too)

USBLoaderGX have an extensive setup check when you launch a gamecube game, it will tell you if your setup is wrong.
if you have a warning or an error message, you can post it here to get help, but the error message IS the solution.

I know you probably prefer using CFG, but just use USBLoaderGX as a setup checker only.

All of my gc iso's are RAW.

note that USBGX require the game to be in a subfolder (games//game.iso)
i forgot to say, they are all in a subfolder games/(gameID)/(gameID).iso

Or you can copy the game yourself on your FAT32 partition.
i might try that, but i don't think it will help much

Why are you not using Nintendont? It has 100% game compatibility and much more features compared to dios mios

Yes i tried it and it didn't work either.
It doesn't help.

What didn't work ?
did you see any error message or warning from inside USBLoaderGX ?

did you see DIOS MIOS splash screen ?

Did you get black screen AFTER the DIOS MIOS splash screen or BEFORE?

if you don't provide more information, we can't help you.
Though, you'll have to note that we didn't use DM/DML for few years, so we might have hard time remembering all the possible issues and how to fix them. I just remember users having issues either before or after the splash screen being two different errors.
Also, not all games are working with DM/DML, but if it works with DML it will work with DM too, it's just the device which is different.

not a single error message, it boots and then blackscreen.

Did you get black screen AFTER the DIOS MIOS splash screen or BEFORE?
before, dios mios splash screen doesn't appear, and the Disc doesn't start to run (i have No Disc: off). and led doesn't Flash, it flashes with nintendont

yes i know, i'm quite late with modding my wii

if it's happening before the splash screen, it's a HDD issue.
it probably can't mound your partition.

If USBLoaderGX doesn't complain, it means all your drive is correctly setup (MBR, FAT32, cluster size, etc.), but MIOS can't mount your drive for some reasons. it's using a "tiny EHCI" USB driver for MIOS restricted size reason, which might not be working with all HDDs.
Try another HDD, just to see if it works with another drive and confirm it's your drive's fault.

I had problems with DM with my Seagate drive, sometime the seagate HDD sent a different data to the console (different PID/VID value, hardware USB interface references), one worked and one didn't.
I could check about it in my debugger (hardware device), but users without one are just wondering what's happening and see a black screen.
Sometime I had to boot 5-10 times until it worked.

Or if you don't have another HDD, just try again, few times, that's all I can suggest for that error.
What you can try is using a different SD card, or use an SD to USB adapter, and use that as USB device.

Try another HDD
well im poor, i have only an USB stick (8GB). i put melee on it and it still doesn't seem to work. (yes i created a Folder "games" and a subfolder with the gameID and the iso, and it was also FAT32, 32kb cluster). it is still a blackscreen.

you have only one SD card?
You don't have any devices which could act as FAT32 HDD ? (ipod, phones, etc.)

I don't think you can do a lot to fix your issue without first being sure it's a HDD compatibility issue. If many other drives are not working either, it could be something in MIOS itself, but I doubt it was badly installed. it's pretty easy to replace/update it with a wad manager, it shouldn't be a corrupted install.

Did you try different and older version ?
You might miss some features, but you could try.

Another thing, if you have burned (chipped console) or retail gamecube disc, you can try to launch them from the disc channel on your system menu.
You need to plug your USB too, or it will not launch at all. though, if it can't detect your partition you might hit the same wall.
That's just some idea you could test, without real hope.

i found out that dios mios runs with an USB Stick (the 8GB is broken, i used a new 16GB one).

so the problem is my HDD device, but it is exactly formatted for dios mios. could the size (2TB) too big? or why does my HDD not work?

You found a working one, that's great :)
more or less... it is a 16GB stick but i have 200+GB Wii and Gc Games... so it is not a real solution ... i think i have to use nintendont...:glare:
i looked up the dios mios compatibility list here, and you are right, it is not compatible

Nintendont works much better than DM anyway.
i don't need these Features like emulating a gc Controller or a Memory Card, because i have them. does nintendont have any other "much better" Features?
it also takes ages to load and initialize, so i prefer dm

Nintendont also uses the real MC and real GC controllers.
It's pretty much like Dios Mios, but better.

Yes, audio streaming, for one. Kind of a important for a large chunk of games to have properly working audio, like Star Fox Adventures, 1080 Avalanche, etc

https://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.php?title=Audio_Streaming

Without it, games will not have any music working properly. I don't even know why DM is still supported to be honest.

DM was great for its time, but Nintendont is still supported and is the recommended way now. You can use it with the original MIOS and still have support for original GCN discs if you wish.
