I used to use the DNS 205.166.76.187 from @fokouethan to block the update nags of the Nintendo Switch. I used it to mainly remove the game update nag when launching a game but it seems it stopped working :/.
Is there a way to remove this update nag manually, I know resetting the console in maintenance mode could fix the problem but I'm not sure if it removes both the update nag asking that a Sys Update is ready & the one when launching a game.

Just curious because I'm trying to stay on 3.0.0.

That only blocks software and system update nag, as in when you launch the game, a popup tells you to update and no you cannot block the games actual update checker.

Boot into safemode to remove the downloaded data. Block all 5 online servers.
You go into data management and delete all sys data except for game data right?
Also, if I do this would it remove any downloadable games, or DLC? ATM I have the legend of Zelda expansion pass DLC & two games I never really play (Bomberman R, and SniperClips.)

Sorry for asking this to, but your referring to the DNS to correct? Not removing the update nag via sys reset. I kind of jumped to conclusions with my last post.

Okay so this order:
->Use the DNS to 173.255.238.217 or set a fiddler server or block using pihole or block name servers using your router
-> Boot to recovery while powering on hold both volume keys (booting here removes the update)
-> power on your system and receive no update nag

You should update to 3.0.1, hackers won't be able to hack the switch until a long time, so they will probably hack a new update instead (unless it patches stuff).

Went ahead and tested this for myself since OP was asking.

This does get rid of your downloadable games.

I've also tried launching botw but I am getting prompt to update the software of the game.

Long time lurker but I figured I'd just give the heads up to anyone else attempting to do this.

This is terrible advice, always stay as low as you can!

Yeah I know updating to the latest firwmare is a bad idea, but the just came out 5 months ago. Didn't the 3DS get hacked 1-3 years after release?

Thanks for confirming I have BOTW DLC so redownloading it on an older FW isn't possible for me :(
So I guess its impossible to remove this update nag. Which is a bummer, I would advise anyone who is on a low firmware to not connect to the internet if possible. Its not worth it to receive news but then get the update nag from connecting to the internet :P.

lmfao what. the other guy clicked delete all software. if you boot into safe mode with the volume buttons held like you're supposed to, then click the power button WITHOUT selecting any options the update will be gone. I have botw dlc and many demos downloaded. as for the updates being blocked on 3.0.0, I just went over to my router page and blocked all the websites you're supposed to block.

I did this and it worked (also using the DNS listed above on primary & secondary.) Finally I don't have to risk pressing update every time I play a game :)

Thanks!

I also have the nag and want to this, but kinda scared I'd accidentally hit the delete all software button. Is there a confirmation for it, or does it just go ahead and do it? Btw OP, if you press the Update button when you get nagged accidentally, if you have a game running it'll ask you to confirm if you want to close the game, I accidentally hit it and just pressed no. No idea what happens if you press it with no game open already

All you have to do is add the DNS in Internet Settings, then boot into recovery mode after you save the internet settings.

To get into recovery mode, turn the console off and turn it back on while holding the + & - volume buttons.

Alright so now your here, all you have to do is exit maintenance mode/recovery, you don't have to do anything else just turn off the console. Next go back and see if the update nag(s) are gone. I want to warn you, go very slow on this step because I went ahead and accidentally updated from 2.3.0 to 3.0.0 becuase I was going to fast.

If you mean an update nag that asks you to close a game becuase of a software update, don't accept it. If your not sure what option your picking by the way just shutdown the console or re-read the nag carefully. If you just want to close a game by hitting X on the game icon and it just says "Close the software your currently using?" Its fine you can just close it and it will close the software without any problems.

Edit; Drr I misread your post completely, if you accidentally press update without a game open I think it will just automatically start the update process. Or bring you to the menu, i'm not sure what happens from there except the obvious system update.
