Dragon Quest: Builders 2 announced for Switch and PS4

image.jpeg

Square Enix has announced the sequel to their 2016 title, Dragon Quest: Builders, a game that originally released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Simply titled as Dragon Quest: Builders 2, this time, the game will be releasing for PS4 and the Nintendo Switch. Not much was revealed, though the company said new features like gliding, underwater exploration, and a hugely missed feature in the original; online multiplayer will be included in 2. The game is currently in development, and has no release window.

Hm. From the looks of it, maybe the Switch will take the Vita's place as the portable option for games like these. For what it's worth, the Vita did have a nice collection of niche titles, so having those same games on the Switch would be kinda cool.

Not going to lie, I'm super stoked for this one. I went in to the first game with fairly low expectations, and really enjoyed it. One thing I would really enjoy in the sequel is making the world feel a bit more connected.

So basically they ripped off Minecraft in the first one and now they're ripping off gliding from breath of the wild in the second one... and the underwater exploration is being ripped off from no man's sky? :P

Why would you even include no man's sky as a comparison for underwater exploration when subnautica is leagues better.

Is this game actually good? I'm way too surprised that this and dragon quest heroes got a sequel, this dynasty warrior crossover take over collaboration trend is really making impact on popularity around the web. I mean nothing against this, just was wondering if it had trouble selling with the standard game them of characters and setting and story.

Haven't heard anything about dragon warrior monsters (or what ever they call it now) games like the one on gameboy color where you capture, train monsters and battle to win tournaments, and I was wondering if tecmo was gonna make another Ninja gaiden or dead or alive game.... or HD collection remastered.

sigh... only if it were for Wii U or 3DS........ sure Wii U is pushing it, but 3DS is entirely doable

but whats this about online multiplayer? hope it doesn't mean online only.... we need more local things! if i have to find a signal justt to play with my girlfriend im gonna be cheesed.... and hopefullly its not just stupid minigames, worse kind of multiplayer

what i'd like to see is co-op campaign, and multiplayer quests / events randomly generated like the campaign , "oh i need to make some _____ can you get it for me?" "thanks here is this blueprint of awesomeness" . or even better "Hurry back to the ______ (Village / Town / Castle)!!! we are under attack by waves of _____"

You're dreaming if you think this could run on the 3DS without some SERIOUS compromise. Just because a game's artstyle looks simple doesn't mean the actual hardware needed to run it can be weak. And the WiiU is dead. Gotta move on.

And of course its not online only. Its just co-op. Go watch the gameplay videos, like 95% of your questions are answered in the gameplay demo.

So DQ Build 1 is just a demo, which is a square's marketing move, to see how people react to it under minecraft's evil mind-washing domination, pretty smart squares employees.

builder 2 basically is just 1's expansion with multiplayer, finally there comes a worthy game for my dusteater psdead.

These game developers have absolutely no creativity. Minecraft ripped off of the gathering of materials and building of structures from real life. Breath of the Wild ripped off of hang-gliding, also from real life. Underwater exploration? Real life scuba diving does it better! Why can't games be as good as real life.

In the first game you would completely lose your previous progression with each new chapter. That was a really frustrating mechanic, for absolutely no reason. I know several people who just gave up on it because of that.
Hopefully they try to think a little bit more when designing this one.

All first person shooters ripped off DOOM, they need to be more creative! /sarcasm

To be fair though, this game has more or less lifted the foundation of it's gameplay from Minecraft which had popularized this style of open world building. However, I can see this one appealing more to people under the guided hand that it gives you with all the in built progression mechanisms integrated into the story. Hurrah for trying something new! On a more cynical note, having not played any of the Dragon Quest games and being unaware of the history they have, the hang gliding does seem to be more of a tacked on idea of transport lifted from Zelda purely because Zelda did it and it had been well received for doing so, rather than an integral part of the experience as Zelda's was (I haven't played BotW either for that matter).
