Haxchi still works on 5.5.2, but updating to 5.5.2 is not recommended. If you update to 5.5.2 and something goes wrong with Haxchi, you will have no other way to load homebrew. I recommend doing the following:

Step 1. Block updates by adding these DNS settings:
For each of your connections (and all future connections), do the following
  • Select the connection
  • Select “Change Settings”
  • Move to the second list and choose “DNS”
  • Set the DNS to “Don’t Auto-Obtain”
  • Set the DNS server IPs to the following servers
  • 168.235.092.108
  • 081.004.127.020
  • Select “Confirm”, then press (B) to save
  • These servers will block your SysNAND from being updated
Step 2. Delete the update folder on your NAND as extra protection against updates.

There's no added functionality that 5.5.2 brings, so there's no reason to update. If you want to update from 5.5.1 to 5.5.2 anyway without updating the browser, preserving that as a primary exploit, you can follow this guide to install the following three files:
0005001010041100 v560
0005001B10051000 v128
000500301001A10A v66
Online play still works on 5.5.1, and you can always use the eShop by running NNU Patcher first.

does anyone know if the system still nags you about updating if you update everything but the browser? like if the system finds an out-of-date system title (the browser)?

Your browser will be forcibly updated to the 5.5.2 version if you do not block updates, even if everything else is 5.5.2. Using the recommended DNS settings and deleting the update folder from your NAND are highly recommended.

yeah, that's what I was thinking. it's pretty pointless to update anyway. I'm blocking through a proxy and my laptop, and I've deleted the update folder, so I'm safe. I have two wii u's, both blocking updates. the second might be worth selling for anyone whose system accidentally updated. it's completely unhacked. not even the update folder has been deleted. however, it's blocking with my proxy setup.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

btw, sorry for the double-post, but it's the tmd file that specifies the version, correct? can that be spoofed?

If i delete the update folder and wish to update later can this still be done?

Sorry if i'm not fully up-to-date with my information but what is there to worry when having a 5.5.2 console with DNS block/removed update folder + having access to a browser exploit (albeit an unreliable one)?

The last part is key. Unreliable. That's all. HaxChi is 100%

But down the road why not just get HaxChi so you're not stick on 5.5.2 if they update

Now that there's a browser exploit for 5.5.2 (even if it's unreliable), there's no reason not to update to 5.5.2 if you have Haxchi. There's also no reason to update either.

If you don't have Haxchi, updating to 5.5.2 is not recommended.

True that. So basically Haxchi is doable, even when on 5.5.2. I only wonder what i'll be missing (full NAND backup?), since most homebrew is meant/build for 5.5.1.

Well, the console in question already has 5.5.2 on it, which is why i wanted to know what options i had.

5.5.2 has very few changes compared to 5.5.1. Aside from the reliability of the browser exploit, they're functionally identical.

Even with Haxchi, the update to 5.5.2 used to not be recommended because there was no way to reinstall Haxchi if something went wrong with it. Now that the 5.5.2 browser can be used to install Haxchi, there's no real reason for Haxchi users not to update.

Mocha users who don't want to spend money on Haxchi shouldn't update to 5.5.2.

Its a good thing I waited out long enough for an ok to update. Since getting hold of CDN downloads are nearly getting killed off by Nintendo now is a good time to install DLC's we don't have

So.. multiple questions here:

I am running a Wii U with 5.5.1 and haxchi booting into mocha CFW. There all my games are installed on the main menu with DLC included. Online play is possibly.

I now get Update popups for Zelda breath of the wild and it tells me I cannot update Zelda without updating the system first.

One user above pointed out that users running mocha should not update as haxchi costs money (is that true?).

In case I want to update to 5.5.2 to update Zelda, do I update directly after booting or after I ran haxchi and booted into mocha CFW?

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.

I remember seeing the very first episode back in the day, and have watched every episode since. I used to set my VCR to record them even, shows how long ago.

I just like any comedies really, and cartoons have always been a favorite of mine. Family guy, American Dad, Futurama, Cleveland Show, Simpsons - I like them all.

South Park is great cause they always touch on relavent issues going on today, and make something funny out of it.

@BigOnYa were you always up to date on the current events and issues of the time or were there issues that you first found out thru south park
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Most of the time yea I knew, I watch and read the news regularly, but sometimes the Hollywood BS stuff, like concerning actors slip by me. I don't follow most Hollywood BS (example: the Kardasians)

@BigOnYa there were relevant issues before south park was made, that's why i think a south park prequel/spinoff would be great. Randy and his friends in their child hood

Yea, like them running in high school together, getting into stuff, and how they got hitched and had kids. And how the town of South Park was back then compared to now. That would be cool to see.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
    yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@salazarcosplay if they made a prequel, it would still be about current issues, cause it doesn't make sense to make it about stuff that happened 30 years ago that nobody cares about anymore
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's too late
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the older south park episodes about particular issues usually age poorly since the topic is no longer relevant

an exception is giant douche vs turd sandwich, that's always relevant :P
