Could it be possible to overclock Adrenaline to run PSP apps even faster than a real PSP at 333 MHz?

Maybe run the virtual PSP at an equivalent of 555 MHz?

This could greatly improve speed on some emulators running in Adrenaline, e.g. the C64 Emulator VicePSP (slowdown in Master of The Lamps) or N64 Emulator surreal64 (slowdown in Mario 64).

there's no surreal64 emu for PSP, maybe you mean Daedalux X64.
Anyway i dont think it is possible, and not at 555Mhz at least because the "smart" sony underclock Vita power to 444Mhz...

it's comparable to the 3DS with DS mode. DS mode can be ran with DSi speeds (yes DSi had better processors and more ram). IIRC, same story for psp, as it can use the better ram in the later models. (I'm not as well versed in sony, despite owning each console of theirs)

How can something designed to function like a underpowered system (compared to the system is running on) function better? Is the same limits as psp. Use a vita app for enhance performance. :wtf:

That's a silly ass viewpoint mate. People making stuff do things that it isn't designed for is basically what this site is about. If it was emulating the psp via software it could definitely be possible to do as OP suggested in theory. Since it's hardware (which your post didn't touch upon) yeah it's not gonna happen.

eh, Sony themselves call it an emulator. Its files are stored under a "pspemu" directory.
Nothing about the word "emulator" indicates software. Wiktionary defines it as "A piece of software or hardware that simulates another system." and indeed hardware emulators are commonly used in the VLSI industry.

I couldn't find anything in the 10 minutes I spent on google. Does the vita have psp hardware in it? I remember that the ps1 emulation used to be funky because the vita was missing a necessary chip that the psp had, at least necessary on the psp side of things as the vita has a native ps1 emu

The ps vita's SOC sports an Allegrex R4000 cpu @333Mhz, so no, you can't overclock it any further than the original psp cpu because it's the exact same chip. The Media engine is emulated and running on vita hardware (thought Kermit modules) however.
Thanks for the answer, I was quite curious.

so the psp hardware is in the vita, wouldn't it be nice if sony decided to throw in a separate ps2 hardware in the vita? Shouldn't be too difficult to do, right? given how old the ps2 is and they could've find ways to miniaturize the ps2 hardware into the vita, then we can play all ps2 games natively, no emulation

Making it portable isn't a problem... the problem is making it pocket sized. Trying to make a miniature ps2 is quite the undertaking, also heating issues. The thing would fry itself if it wasn't tablet sized.

Just look at any portable gamecube, they're always quite bulky and would need a bag to carry around.

Really interesting ! I thought it was software emulation too. I known that first PS3 model was having hardware emulation on it but not Vita.
