**Please know that I am not creating a thread to ask how to do the update, I just don't know how to get around my SD issue**
Hello all, I have been out of the scene since I successfully A9LH'd my N3DS, and am now trying to get to B9S, but I am in a uniquely bullshit position. My SD is corrupted and I am unable to copy files TO it, but I can copy files FROM it. It works without issue in my 3DS. Here goes: I have an N3DSXL running A9LH, on 11.4.0. I would like to update to B9S, however my microSD is somewhat corrupted, in that it works without issue in my 3DS, but I am unable to copy files to it with a computer. I get the semaphore timeout error. I was, however able to copy my JKSV backups from the SD, which was a relief. I am thinking of doing one of two things. A): Create a new install of B9S on another microSD, (will it be possible for me to do a fresh install from 11.4.0, using the OOThax method?). Then upon successful installation, I will format the corrupted, larger microSD, and copy the contents of the newly B9S'd SD to it. From there I will install FreeShop and re-install all of my games, and then use JKSV (please tell me there is nothing stopping it from working on B9S) to import all of my backed up saves. The other option; B): I continue to use AL9H, and do not update the firmware past 11.4.0, as I cannot update Luma, and wait until my online functionality ceases, and/or my 3DS bricks, and then cry and curse the gods. TL;DR: I don't know what to do ;( I will be eternally indebted to any of you talented folks on this forum willing to grant me some advise. Thank you..

It's possible that it's simply your SD card reader that's faulty.
Have you tried backing up the card, formatting and copying the files back on? Sometimes that can solve odd issues.

I am thinking of doing that next, but it's a bit of an undertaking. the SD is a 64GB and nearly full. If i were to copy the files off, format, and then copy back, is there any chance that any corrupt data may still cause issues? I don't think it is the reader, because it acts the same way when I access the SD through the network connection option. This issue came about a long while back, but it wasn't a real issue since I could add games with FreeShop, and had no reason to access the SD on a PC.... until now.... Thank you for the reply!

It might be worth it running chkdsk first of all, in case there is any corruption on the card. But if it's the reader failing that will most likely fail without changing anything.
Anyway, if you're able to copy the files off the card without problems, there might still be corrupted data but at least it shouldn't cause issues like you're describing. If you can get the card formatted that should hopefully solve your problem.

So the last time I was attempting this, I was able to read the card via network connection, and copy off my JKSV save backups. Now, inserting it in my PC gives me a prompt to format the SD, and after I select cancel, I can see "Secure Digital...." as a drive (not the name I gave it) and when I select it in explorer it tells me to insert a disk into drive X(E,G...). I have an SD that I A9LH'd earlier on (16GB), and stopped using when I got this 64GB card, and it has no problems on my PC, and looks to have all the right files, but won't boot in my 3DS! I get the blue power light, and a flash on the top screen and then nothing.

If I run chkdsk on it, is it possible for it to repair the SD without formatting it?

Be sure to check if SD adapter its unlocked
Lol, don't worry it's not. I have made that mistake before, but this is something truly insideous...

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Hopefully that's enough to solve it.
Now, will chkdsk recognize it, when explorer is currently telling me to "insert a disk" when I select it?

Probably not. Does that happen every time now?

So... so much as right clicking the drive results in a loading wheel the length of Star Wars, and then Windows Explorer stops responding.... :/

yes. :(

yes. :(
Yet it still works flawlessly when I stick it in my 3DS and turn it on.......

EDIT: I replaced the arm9loaderhax.bin file with a newly downloaded one and now I am able to boot my older SD on my 3DS, and it has no corruption issues!! SO my plan is to update THIS SD to B9S, and then format the fucked up one and copy it over. Since the SD is kinda old (still has AL9H CFW etc.) is it possible I could run into any issues to do with versions etc.?

I have the EXACT same problem. The SD card randomly stopped showing up as a drive on my computer a few weeks ago (tried at least 3 different adapters) but it reads fine on my 3ds. I"ve been using an ftp homebrew and FileZilla to transfer files off and onto the SD. If you could, may you format your sd card with godmode9 and tell me if the computer recognizes it afterwards? It'd help me without making me lose 32gb of data just to test it out.

When I get to that point, yes. With the help of Quantumcat and the rest of the gba ppl, I have figured out how to proceed. When I do get to the point of formatting the bad card (I'll be getting a new one anyway) I will post here and let you know if it is recognizable after that. However, as it's been explained to me, this usually happens because of a hardware fault and it isn't good to rely on. Although if you can copy files to yours at all it might not be as bad as mine.

UPPDATE: Using the microSD management app (New3DS) I am able to copy files from the bad card (including JKSV save backups, so glad this app exists) but I have yet to attempt to copy the 32GB "Nintendo 3DS" folder with all of the encrypted files containing my game installs. I will be attempting this feat shortly, and it will be a feat since the files will be travelling from the **BROKEN** SD card, over WiFi to my PC, then through USB to my external 1TB WD Passport. This is already a risky transfer since if either the WiFi drops out, the passport gets unplugged, or my computer restarts the copied folder will be useless. I don't believe there is any risk to the card or my 3DS, just time wasted. And even after i copy the folder, there is no guarantee it will work and I will have all of my games installed by copying it to my new SD. There could be broken files in the "Nintendo 3DS" folder (I have found garbage corrupt files on this SD before), or for whatever reason it could just not work. I have had this happen where I copied the "Nintendo 3DS" folder of one SD to another and then the 3DS just made a new "Nintendo 3DS" folder or something like that; it didn't care that it would take a long time to install all my games. At any rate, this has been and will continue to be a time consuming update to Boot9Strap for my New3DS, and I will let you guys know how it goes when I get the new 64GB SD.Hey, they make 128GB microSD cards now right? I heard they don't work with the 3DS, but I also heard that about 64GB... HMMM.... In the meantime I have a 16GB card with most of the favorite games I own on it. It will have to due for now. All the while I have zero issues updating my girlfriend's Old3DS to B9S.... How does that saying go? The cobbler's son goes without shoes... lol Thanks everyone, this community always comes through when I need help!
EDIT: aaaaaaaaand when I copy the folder it starts "preparing to copy", calculating and discovering the files, and when it gets to about 16GB (out of 32) discovered the window just closes. WELP, guess I'm installing the games one by one! At least I can start with the Nintendo 3DS folder of the 16GB card... OH WELL!

You will be able to make 64gb and up SD cards work on 3ds, you just need to format it to fat32 using a certain program. I attempted to copy everything over via FTP but the feat would've taken 72 hours to complete, so I left it alone and managed to keep a few saves.

Yeah no dice lol. I am just finishing up updating my gf's Old3DS to B9S, and this Godmode9 program seems pretty badass. I was going to ask if there would be some way to copy the Nintendo 3DS folder from one SD to another buy unmounting the SD and then swapping cards, but that doesn't make sense because there would be nowhere for it to copy the files to between swapping... So I guess the answer is no, there is no way to do that lol

I'm actually going to trade my N3DS in for the N2DS today, so I'm gonna have to format my sd card anyway. Wish me luck !
