Nintendo announces the New 2DS XL

Coming out of absolutely nowhere, Nintendo has revealed a new variation of the 2DS...the New 2DS XL! The system features a top screen that looks almost like a cell phone snapped onto the bottom of a 3DS. It has the extra processing power of the N3DS, amiibo functionality, and the C-stick nub, while, just like the original 2DS, omits the 3D feature of the handheld. The New 2DS XL will release on July 28, and retail for $149.99.

It's not really inferior considering that a) most people don't use 3D and b) it looks pretty nice.
It's lacking features compared to the original which makes it inferior by definition. The price difference is minimal and simply doesn't justify the purchase when you can get an N3DS XL right now, turn the 3D off and get a virtually identical experience.

You can also get the same experience for $50 cheaper. It is inferior by definition, not in practice.

$50 off with the removal of 3D, a pretty cool, and different design? I was sold on it when I first saw it and got confirmation the screen sizes with N3DS XL are identical. As someone who only plays Pokemon, this is really good since starting with Sun/Moon, they gave up 3D features. So anyone who wants to also play just those games and don't have a 3DS, can now go for this if they want. If it feels better than the N3DS XL remains to be seen, I have to get if first. On appearance, it sure catches the eye a bit better than N3DS XL, and also its design has advantages over N3DS XL, namely the microSD slot being in a much better place. The camera thing looks a bit wonky, but I'm more into the microSD slot change.
