So its been awhile since I used my 3ds. Noticed that I couldn't startup luma3ds chainloader and in my attempt to fix it my 3ds no longer turns on, with only the light quick going on then off.

Hoping I didn't brick it but fear it could be the case.

step by step what I did

- Opened Luma3ds, saw it needed to be updated (Ver.7.1) and tried to update. Didn't work. It just stayed at 7.1.

- Followed https://3ds.guide/updating-b9s and thats when I noticed chainloader wouldn't start

- Searched the chainloader problem here. Nothing I read fixed the issue but saw a post mentioning reinstalling the cia for luma to get around it. which I did.

- opened Luma, saw it still said 7.1 so I tried to update again, and it was this time that my 3ds wouldn't turn on and only gave the on an off light.

Is there anything I can do or do I just have to get a new 3ds?

Man I don't know too much about the specifics of it all, but a couple of times during my 3ds softmod experiences, I've had to remove the battery for 60 seconds to fix black screens or apparent bricks. I know it isn't much but try that and see if it saves you.

do you have b9s 1.2

because you need b9s 1.2 to use any luma version over 7.1

Tried this. Did not work. Also tried backing up and formating my sd card. put everything back, didn't work either.

I'll assume I was on 1.0?

Its been afew month since I did the change from A9LH to B9S so I don't recall. Also couldn't do the https://3ds.guide/updating-b9s guide today because chainloader wouldn't start. So it could be that.

Is there anything I can do about it?

Remove the memory card and try to boot it, then insert memory card and just reboot

Tried this. Nothing changed. Still just the blue light flashing on an off.

Why didn't the chainloader start? Did you make sure everything was in the right folder?

Don't know why it wasn't working. I could hold select for configuration just fine. But holding start for chainloader wouldn't do anything and I'd just startup into homescreen like normal.

Everything should have been in the right folder. I haven't touched my 3ds for a few months since I did the change from A9LH to B9S. The only changes I did today was the Prep Work portion of the https://3ds.guide/updating-b9s guide.

Instead of loading SafeB9SInstaller through the chainloader, put it as your boot.firm.

Hey that did it! it turned on again.

Thank you, its really appreciated.

This also got chainloader working so now I got everything up to date.
So you were able to update to B9S 1.2 and Luma3DS 8.1?

Yup, changing the boot.firm got it to turn on again. Tried Chainloader and it was also working so I immediately went to update B9S and it went without a hitch.

They're now 1.2 and 8.1 respectively.
Good to hear! Happy hacking! :grog:
