i suggest you to create one thread with all the questions instead clutter the forum with 50 threads

the ez iv is a GBA flaschart, can be used in any official console that reads GBA games
including the NDS, NDS LITE, gba, gba sp, gba micro, gameboy player

as it's a gba cart, like all gba carts doesn't' require any NDS thing like r4.
keep in mind, you can only use it for GBA games
an r4 is a NDS cart to play NDS software.

What Roms are supported? I know GBA is supported...

gba roms. it's a gba flashcart.
as for compatibility in gba games, i am yet to find one that doesnt' work...

in the older versions of the firmware, it did support NDS mode, but it's obsolete (requires a NDS flaschart, or passme device, or flashme which requires one of the former to install)

you can also try some emulators like gomba for gb\gbc games, there is also pocketnes but you are better using a NDS flashcart with NDS homebrew for that

You can play some DS games on the EZ flash but compatibility is horrible.
If you want GBC/GB games, get Goomba colour.
There's a NES emu for GBA as well.

don't forget to say, you need the older firmwares (wish i do believe is not compatible with the black ez iv?)
and you need a way to launch the NDS mode. the easiest way nowadays is trough a NDS card lol

I see it supports themes. Do the themes work for GBA mode, too, or are they DS only?

It got removed in 2.0 iirc.
Eh, DS flashcards are cheaper then GBA flashcards anyway.

It supports themes in GBA mode yes.
However, you need to patch the firmware into the update file.

What's required to patch the firmware into the update file? Can I store more than 1 theme? Can I use cheats in GBA ROMs?

Originally you would mod the skin images to be what you want (or just extract them if someone provided them for you), stick a current (or your chosen) update file in the program folder and run the program which would in turn spit out a new update file with the EZTeam code and your chosen images for the skin. Said older tools broke when some of the new updates came to pass, however there are now alternatives in things like http://gbatemp.net/threads/ez-flash-4-skin-builder.477287/

Just a single theme. You might be able to do something convoluted with update files and renaming via a renaming program (which I am not sure there is in GBA homebrew, and we don't suggest managing your EZ4 with DS programs), and then updating every time you fancy a change but don't. I get that people like changes but it is really just something you scroll through a game name list and press load on.

Cheats. Officially I am not sure what goes right now. Many GBA games have trainers ( http://gba.dellicious.de/gbatrainer/ ) and there is a program called GBAATM which will allow you to patch them (can be enabled and disabled) into games. Is it possible to transfer Pokémon from GBA ROMs on EZ Flash

Is it possible to transfer Pokémon from GBA ROMs on EZ Flash to legit DS games?

And my ROM of the English Fan-translation of Mother makes this weird looping sounds, and I cannot get past the Game Boy Player screen. Why?

I assume you mean link cable. In that case I am not sure what goes with the new updates, however there are patches for the older ones if you should have trouble with your link cable.

Originally there was something called pokepatch to allow you to get it into a patched DS ROM. https://filetrip.net/nds-downloads/rom-hacks/download-pokepatch-4-2-f27240.html
Again with the new autoupdating kernels I am not sure if things would get troubled, should be fine though as it is just patching the DS game to load from GBA SRAM rather than the flash it expects and you can still get the save into RAM.
Alternatively you can dump the save from the GBA game and a DS game and use an emulator to get it into the DS save, and flash the DS save back.

Assuming you flashed it to the NOR I am not sure.
