Hacking Can I downgrade Gateway Emunand 11.3 (on 9.2 sysnand)

A while back I updated my unlinked emunand (in gateway mode) as I thought that to be a good idea for some reason (hadn't checked Gateway-3ds or GBAtemp in quite a while) however I discovered right after that it didn't boot into my emunand anymore after that.

So I'm wondering, Can I downgrade my 11.3 emunand? I don't want to lose all my saves.. (Or somehow backup all my save files so I can make a clean emunand again (To which I can restore my saves again)?)

Downgrading would be preferred though..

EmuNAND = 11.3 (unlinked), Can't boot through Gateway because theres no updated launcher.

Downgrading would be preferred though..

you can either go through the trouble of deleting your old emunand and creating a new one and not lose your saves or maybe you will depending on where you saved them

or you can update your whole setup https://3ds.guide and possibly save all your work and actually benefit from all the work you'll go through

Another option if you just want to get your EmuNAND back is to load your EmuNAND through Luma CFW instead of Gateway and then use sysupdater and an upgrade pack for 11.2 and your region to downgrade your emunand. Then it will work with gateway again.

After you do that (or before if you choose) you can install Boot9Strap on your 9.2 Sysnand using Soundhax for HomeBrew access, then you can update your SysNAND to 11.5. As long as you don't flash your emuNAND to sysnand, you will retain the partition and it will still be on 11.2 for use with Gateway.

Warning though, if you boot Gateway mode in SysNAND with firmware 11.3+ (after installing BootStrap) it will remove CFW from an O3DS and brick a N3DS.

While B9S/CFW is not 100% necessary ( not sure what your setup is, but I assume Menuhax if you're on 9.2+ emunand) it will at least eradicate errors from using out of date methods to load hacks, and prevent you from losing them in an update. Since you've already learned you can't update your EmuNAND AND use Gateway, you're forcing yourself to use an outdated console and as such limiting yourself in terms of new games/hacks. There are plenty of things that require 11.3 and above.

Right, so you need to load your Emunand with Luma so you can downgrade it to 11.2 to continue using your gateway.

So theres this new a9lh or b9s stuff? So I'm wondering if theres a guide or a few steps somewhere that I can take to make sure I don't update my sysnand or do other stupid stuff? I currently use the webbrowser exploit as entry into gateway, if that matters at all?

Well with B9S you can update your sysnand without losing access to homebrew and other things. It's entirely up to you if you want to install CFW or if you just want to downgrade your emunand so you can use it again.

Follow https://3ds.guide and when you get to Luma settings, tick "Autoboot emuNAND" so you can get into your emuNAND. From there, you can use sysupdater to downgrade it. Then you can use https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/ to be able to use Gateway.

I am not going to push anything, I am just trying to find a pattern here. It seems almost everyone is using it cheats, but of course research can't only be considered confirmed based on a few results.

Uhm, in my case its the easiest way for my GF to download and play games, just drag the file onto the SD card and done.. And I'd rather keep the .cia stuff for myself.

Booting into it is easy enough too, just open webbrowser and done.

Thank you all, my 3DS is in working state again, including the Gateway card, the Luma CFW seems a nice extra to have, now I can boot into GW Emunand directly too without needing internet access.

right so the initial steps are basically.. Use the browser exploit from https://3ds.guide (even if you are 9.2.0) (not sure about higher), follow all the steps to install luma CFW and then boot into your GW emunand, this however does not get the GW card to work.. you would then have to downgrade the GW Emunand to 11.2 again using "Sysupdater" and getting the downgrade files from: https://gbatemp.net/threads/3dnus-mod-by-dr-hacknik.392360/ for the title enter 11.2.0 and for the version USA or E (depending on your region)

Then you have your GW emunand back to 11.2 and you can boot into using the regular methods.. OR you can take a FEW extra steps to get it to from from the luma CFW, which is nicer then going through the browser by following the steps here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/

I would not use Soundhax, it's buggy and never worked for me..

I have hacked my 3DS with 3ds.guide, I was on 4.5 (I downgraded from 9.2 to 4.5 using gateway's method) and I used 3ds.guide
What I mean on a guide on how it works I'm referring to "guides" (more like explanations for the rest of us) like this or this.
