UPDATE: SEGA ends Sonic and Archie Comic partnership

image.jpeg

For 24 years, Archie Comics' and Sonic the Hedgehog have been partnered to create the longest-running video game comic series. However, after a hiatus that started earlier this year, SEGA of America has announced that the two will be parting ways. The current comic series will be ending, but SEGA said future endeavors are planned for Sonic comics, with a new team behind it. The series started in 1993, and has more than 300 issues, with multiple side series and spinoffs.

UPDATE: SEGA is going with IDW Publishing for further installments of Sonic Comics.

hmm, I just heard a real sharp edge hit somewhere o.o
Haha... I actually love Shadow. Both his game, and as a character. Never has a Sonic Character had such a intense, and complex backstory. Oh wait; the Future, White, dumn, hedgehog, Silver. WHO CAN'T FUCKING FIND THE TRAITOR!

I know how hated that game is, but it was enjoyable for me. In fact, if there was a sequel, I'll buy it. It can be an alternate universe. We Mass Effect now. Like even guns aside, it a shame none of the ideas carried over to another game. Like unlocking things, base on how you act in the game. Better Karma system than Fallout's.

The internet would have a field day, if Shadow the Hedgehog 2 came out and having a M rating on top of that.

I'd love a Sequel. Even with a M rating. We need more serious toned games; much like Sonic Unleashed, and (honestly) Sonic 2006.

Is there anywhere to actually read Sonic The Comic in order? Online? Tried searching before but never found anywhere.

ANyway, ontopic, a shame, I remember finding just 1 copy of Sonic The Comic back a number of years ago, must have been about 8. Had an absolutely WICKED Metal Sonic poster in it. Never saw it irl after that again.
Sonic the Comic is the wierd European version where sonic is a total prick. This series is just sonic the hedgehog and is published by archie

Depends what they do with it. I wouldn't want it to get too serious. Like, I wouldn't want too much blood unless maybe it was in a cutscene. Even cut limbs would be fine.
Shadow the Hedgehog hit that middle for me. Kind of out of place, but still works.

I do hope the next comics wouldn't be their "Sonic Boom" kind of tone.

I ment his game
I know. :P

I still have early 90s comic books like the super sonic vs hyper knuckels issue and the #1 issue of knuckels chaitoxs where they came out with a bunch of new guys.

Theres a Sonic Comic app on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. It was nice. I know people upload it to youtube too.

I loved the Archie Sonics when I was a kid. I collected all of them for a while. I had issues 17-80something, and every single side comic and special during that time. I hung onto them for years and read them multiple times. I ended up selling them on eBay when I went to college. I ended up getting a little above face value for all of them. So I basically got to collect them as a kid, enjoy them for all those years, and then get all my money back for them plus a little extra. I do miss them though. That was a hard thing to sell.

EDIT: I loved when Spaz did the cover for the issue. I even recreated one of the covers in vector for a college project: IMAGE

Good times these comics gave me. I used to read the comics back in middle school or so. In fact, it was sorta how me and my ex girlfriend first connected. She has always been a die-hard fan of Eggman, so I brought one of my many comics with me to a school dance her and I went to. We used to draw sonic characters all the time and sometimes used the comics as guidelines for poses. I had probably an entire box full of the things, got rid of a lot of them when we moved; though I am pretty sure I still have a LOT left ^^; . Anyways, sad to see it go, its been one roller coaster of a ride with many ups and downs. Hope Sega gives us something in the near future.
