Nintendo Virtual Boy Link Cable and Hyper Fighting (Street Fighter II) News

Since the secretive and somewhat controversial release of Virtual Boy Hyper Fighting (Street Fighter II), those lucky enough to have acquired 2 carts have sought to test out the 2-player versus mode. The Virtual Boy Link Cable project was originally re-inspired after an official prototype VB link cable was discovered. However, the process of bringing a working prototype to life has remained an DIY project until now. The newest person to pick up the project has publicly announced that the release of a working VB 2-player link cable is closer than we think. This news does come with a caveat, 2 carts are required for 2-player gaming. Thankfully this too may no longer be an issue as the creator of the FlashBoy [Richard Hutchinson] has just posted that a cart-only, 2nd printing of Virtual Boy Hyper Fighting is well in the works.

As a owner of both the Virtualboy and the Flashboy Plus I have mixed feelings about this.
I always like these obscure homebrew inventions totally, but sometimes its so hard to obtain them... Like with Rhea, Phoebe, DCEMU and PS-IO.

I paid 100€ for the Flashboy and it is not able to play this Street Fighter game. A "retail" Version for 20€ or so(without "deluxe" packaging) would be fine, I paid that price for the "Bound HIgh" custom cart.
The link cable would also be ok to buy or to build it myself.
BUT to find someone with a second Virtualboy system nearby with a second SF cart? close to impossible. ^^
The game sure is impressive with the limited VB capabilities, but compared to regular SF the VB controller sucks.

Heh, I own Flashboy #05 and man, I was so pissed when I heard that the Flashboy+ came out despite really only 1 game that took advantage of a save file.

These days when you buy a Virtual Boy, only 2 things are essential, 1)getting the display fixed with a good solder job and 2)a flash cart. Eventually and unfortunately every Virtual Boy out there will suffer from the glitchy display issue due to the glue that was used inside.

This is pretty cool, didn't know the VB's could link up with eachother....or even had the ability.

But now with this now your friends can break they're necks with you :P

There already is a Virtual Boy emulator. Albeit, it's not that good....

There's also already a Street Fighter game for 3ds, which would seem to make an emulated VB homebrew of SF a little bit redundant except as a novelty. But hey, if that's the sort of thing that gets people excited, well, at least you're not doing drugs or something harmful instead.

Why are you replying to mine and saying that? I was answering a question someone else posted... Though, the Street Fighter game for 3DS is kinda slow IMO -_-

The Virtual Boy might kinda suck... a lot... but this is still awesome news. Makes me wish I owned one. At least until, you know, it gave me a headache in a matter of seconds. Then I'd regret everything.

you need two of the same cart for any of the current 2-player games. head on over to planetvb and check for the thread about the cable. you can buy one for $57 USD (shippped) direct from Keven Mellott.
