Hi,

Looking for some advice if anyone is kind enough to give it? I have a switch and am going to get one for my son's birthday. Is it better to set up an entirely new account (under my wife's name - he is 10) or to use my one? Are there any pros/cons? For example, when we have to pay for the online next year, I take it I would have to pay for 2 if we had separate accounts - but would we both be able to play different online games at the same time if we had the same account? Re digital downloads, I know they can't be shared between 2 consoles under the same account (unless you deactivate one of them) but has there been any news that this might change?

Appreciate any help, thanks!

if you setup the account below the age of 18 certain games become unpurchasable, and most likely you will have to pay online for both accounts. I recommend you just have a single account.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. yeah, i think you're right -although I wonder if it'll lead to some problems. For example, we both have ps vitas under the same account and can't play against/with each other on games that require an internet connection (FIFA/Borderlands 2). Although the good thing about the vita is that digital games can be downloaded on more than one console.

Well, I have 3 :P
One for EUR, one for USA, one for JPN. Anyway, read below.

If you have separate consoles, you can't link the same Nintendo accounts to both, it won't let you link a single account to multiple consoles. You'll need separate accounts for each console.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it as it seems pretty (and probably needlessly) complicated!

It's fine. I have three accounts - Main UK acc, additional accs US and JP.

I wouldn't recommend buying games from one too many different eShop countries because the games just don't feel like they belong to you at that point.

The Real JDbye is spot on and I will add my experience as I have two boys and recently purchased our second Switch. I had to use two different email addresses for each Switch Primary account in order to use eshop. I had created child accounts for each boy under the first Primary account but was able to link the child accounts from the first Switch to new user accounts on the second Switch.

This effectivly means the boys can use the same friend codes on either Switch but I as the parent cannot. I may be able to create yet another user account on the First Switch with my Second Switches Primary account and then be able to use Friend codes across the two devices. Follow that?

Anywho, thanks Nintendo for making things *again* this screwed up.

Ha! Thanks for this info, I knew it wasn't going to be straightforward! God knows the ps vita isn't perfect but they made sharing the one account a lot simpler (and cheaper!)
