Hello Everyone!

I just updated my N3DSXL running 9.0.0 to B9S/Luma3DS and updated to the latest 11.4.0 firmware (sysNAND). I have also kept a 11.2.0 emuNAND partition as gateway has not yet released their 11.4.0 loader and most recommend using gateway via emunand and NOT sysnand which I agree with.

1) Is there an easy way to split (un-link) sysNAND and emuNAND? I know the old method was to format sd card but I'm guessing I would have to reinstall all the B9S/Luma3DS stuff? I like keeping them separate so I can set individual themes so I always know if I'm in sysNAND vs emuNAND.
2) Is there a way to configure the boot_config.ini file or something else to automatically load gateway instead of having to hold down the down d-pad key? (Not a big deal if I can't)
3) Do I need to install sighax for some reason? What are the benefits of sighax? I havent had a chance to look into it and was wondering what it's use is and if I need it or not.

Thanks in advance!

3.) Sighax is so to speak the "dev version" of "community" B9S. While Sighax by derrek resulted in many bricks of community users, B9S was brick free from the beginning if the instructions were followed correctly (I don't know if Sighax is more stable at this point). It is recommended to stay with B9S.

I am not knowledgeable enough to answer the other questions, sorry!

1. Use TinyFormat. Keep in mind, that you'd have to set-up the NAND that was formatted all over again, Homebrew .CIAs and all that stuff.

2. If you want to use GW as your default, you'd have to give up using Luma3DS' boot.firm as your main, and switch to use BootCTR9's boot.firm as your main boot.firm. You'd have to configure the boot_config.ini, to load up GW as default, and setup the rest for Luma3DS.

Exactly the info I was looking for! Thank you very much. I was also meaning to ask you guys what you're using aside from gateway as most seem to be only using Luma3ds. Is it possible to run a .3ds/.3dz from Luma3ds or can only .cias be used via installation? I prefer using gateway with .3dz but I'm not sure if there's an easier alternative to gateway and their slow firmware support :S

If you're not using Gateway's cheats then it doesn't make sense to keep using Gateway. It's dangerous - it you boot into sysNAND accidentally b9s will get wiped, and you have to worry about private headers for online games if you don't want to be banned. That's why nearly everyone only uses Luma. And no you can't use 3ds/3dz files with Luma, just installing cias/using freeShop.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Oh - if you want to use 3ds files, but not have to worry about the dangerous part (except for needing headers) you could use a Sky3DS. No cheats like Gateway but it uses 3ds files.

I don't use gateway for cheats but I definitely don't look forward to converting, installing and figuring out saves for over 50 games :S at the moment i use private headers. How would one accidentally boot gateway in sysnand? Don't you have to press a series of buttons to allow it to load into sysnand? Just curious because I would hate to loose B9S 11.4. So far gateway has been loading into emunand everytime.

I'm assuming once gateway releases their new loader we wont have this dangerous situation with B9S or what is causing B9S from getting wiped when gateway is run on 11.3 or 11.4?

True but if you accidentally used an older launcher.dat it wouldn't ask you for a key combination.

Yes if Gateway get their act together they can make it safe. They don't have a good track record though.

Thanks for letting me know, I didn't want to accidentally run gateway in sysnand 11.4 and loose B9S. Gateway is known for being slow but they always seem to pull through. I'll be happy if they release a new loader for 11.4 "soon" that way it will be much safer to run and I can update emunand to 11.4 as well.

I was also meaning to ask about the ban wave. Has anyone figured out what the cause of the bans were? I've never been banned luckily using gateway in emunand so I'm a bit worried now using B9S and luma on 11.4. Is there things I should avoid doing ? Thanks all for the support.

No one knows for sure but I think it's caused by using homebrew applications while connected to the net. If you are only using Gateway for games (and no homebrew installations, using only 3dsx homebrew), and only play games available on cartridge, and use private headers on any you play online, you're probably safe. This is only my opinion though, no one knows anything for sure.

Is there a guide you followed to update to B9S/Luma3DS and also keep your GW emuNAND?

Right now I'm running A9LH/Luma3DS with GW emuNAND and am interested in upgrading to B9S and keeping my GWemuNAND.
