Hacking What does the percent sign in the lower right hand corner of the Rosalina Module mean?

What the title says. I'm not sure what the xx% thing in the lower right hand corner is when I open up the Rosalina module. I'm pretty sure it doesn't represent battery life because I have 3 bars of battery left on my 3DS but the xx% thing shows 33%.

Well yeah, it's just weird in the sense that I have 3 bars of battery yet it shows I have 33% battery left

Went ahead and just tested what the actual bars mean in terms of %

bars / %range
4 100-61
3 60-31
2 30-11
1 10-1

I can confirm this as well. It's pretty dumb how nintendo made the bars work, when you think you've 50%-75% of your power left on 3 bars, you might only have just over 31%.

This is how I imagined it worked, before the rosalina menu came along and told us how it really was:

4 = 75%-100%
3 = 50%-75%
2 = 25%-50%
1 = 0% -25%

I think it's a little psychological trick on nintendo's part to give you the impression the battery is lasting longer than it actually is. If they used the more logical, linear metering scheme you mentioned, it would seem the bars are depleting faster to the user.

Battery life was a really controversial thing when the 3ds released in 2011, much more so than it is now. Some DS models could get 17 hours of battery life and the worst was about 9 hours. As you could imagine, this was a shock to a lot of nintendo portable fans when, in comparison, the 3ds could lose a full charge in 3 hours. The battery bar trick was intended to mitigate some of the dissatisfaction people experienced but I don't think it worked.
