A simple update status would be nice, right?
Give the team a break and shut up kids.

When its out, you'll see it in OP.

Stop checking this thread everyday, come back in 2 months. We've already been waiting since 2014, it ain't gonna do any harm waiting for another half a year or perhaps more.

are the dlc quests going to be unlocked by default?
Hey, sorry for the lack of updates. I had a lot of things happen in life that were unpleasant surprises, and wasn't able to work on this as much as I had hoped. Everything is okay now, but that's why there hasn't been an update in a bit.

We still need to fix around 250 text related issues, which is not hard just time consuming. We also have a few graphical issues that are tricky, and then there are the riddles in the dream world which I thought we could have one solution for, but talking with the spanish team it will be something a little different than planned.

I also vastly underestimated how long it would take to playtest this and work out all the bugs. I mean, I know I spent more than 100 hours on the original game, but even with cheats turned up to 11 on my emulator, I think I'm at over 30 hours into my playtest according to the save state timer. That doesn't include any of the hours that we've spent going back to past save states to replay areas where we've fixed bugs to make sure things are fixed adequately.

Oh, and someone asked about the DLC - yes, the patch should unlock the DLC. The Spanish team even said the wireless transfer of Travelling Eggs worked for them in some playtests, but we haven't been able to get two people together IRL with the patched game to try it out in English, so we're just hoping for the best on that feature. We have people working in a few different countries on this game, but nobody that is in the same area of the world, so we can promise a solid single player experience. Battling your Imagen wirelessly with your friends and trading Travelling Eggs might work as a nice bonus.

We're alive, we're working on this, but the polish is taking time. Thanks for your patience - it will be out as soon as we can get it out!

Hello from France,
Nice to hear some news. By the way could you tell me which cheat codes do you use for your testing (japanese ones will be compatible i guess)?
If yes i tried to find them online without success, would you mind post them here?
Keep on the good work and congrats for your investment on this project.

We've got quite a few cheat codes taken from a few different Japanese sites, and to be honest some are good for testing that strings fit but not good for playing the game.

I had originally just pasted all the cheats right here, but it was waaaaaay too long, so instead I'm just going to put an attachment on the first post in this thread... Okay, I'm just going to attach it to this post for now, since I apparently don't have edit rights to the top post in this thread. :S Sorry for all the back-and-forth here.

any news??
No, not really? We're just working through bugs and re-testing things. It takes a lot longer to do that than I thought. :(

This is my first ROM translation project, and it is the biggest game to be released on the DS so... I should have known my ideas about how long things take would be off. Sorry for not having this out yet, folks!

I also saw E3 announcements about a release date this year for NNK2, so... yeah. Really trying to get this done before that comes out, but we'll see how it goes. Some bugs are tricky, by nature.

Maybe you could ask for help over at Fan Translators Inc. Discord. https://gbatemp.net/threads/release...olkit-for-authors-of-fan-translations.452375/

From one salty old rom hacker to a new one:
1st off - NEVER apologize to anyone about how long you take on something, and NEVER feel guilty or obligated to reply to people demanding (or even asking nicely) for updates. This is ultimately done because you enjoy doing it, and if you start down those paths it takes away from the joy of what you're creating.
(not saying don't reply to people - if you feel like it, by all means say whatever you want! If you want to give updates or just little "Hey, still alive!" that's perfectly fine! Just never EVER feel obligated to do so.)
2nd - Famous last words of any dev ever is "Hm, this looks easy enough" :)
3rd - And finally - Thank you for all the effort you are putting into this. It's "easy" to rush something out to the masses, especially if feeling pressured by people complaining about "lack of updates", but the time and dedication you've put in show you really care about the project and have good standards you want to adhere to. THAT is what makes a project like this worth the wait.

It's fine to set personal goal deadlines for yourself - but be careful in announcing them in forums like this (especially this one). Personally, I don't care if you don't have this out until well after next year. If you're a fan and care about a project, you buckle in for the long haul.

Again - thank you for your work on this, take all the time you need/want, never apologize for it - and above ALL else... have fun doing this :)

I'll go back to lurking in the background now ;)

Thanks for your titanic work with that project. I hope you will find the way to fix bugs. ;)
(sorry about my bad english)

Cool, I didn't know about that resource. I might just join it to see what is going on in the rest of the fan translation world. :)

We're actually done with the translation (NOTE: of the game, NOT the 300+ page book and we're just giving people the answers to the book-required riddles) and have been for a couple of months now, which I think is why the forum is getting a bit impatient. Also because I said something dumb about being done in the spring sometime (can I pretend it is still spring here in Canada in June?) and didn't realize how long playtesting (and re-re-re-re-replaytesting) a game like this takes even with save points and even with all the cheats in the world (I sometimes have 2 turns in a battle before I beat a boss with all of my cheats turned on, and yet... so much time...).

Thanks for the heads-up on that one... as a Canadian I am culturally predisposed to apologizing, and in general I'm one of those people that even my fellow Canucks say "Stop apologizing!" to which I always say, "Sorry. I mean, sorry. Augh! Sorry, I'll stop! Wait, no! I just! Awwww.... Sorry guys... NO! DAMMIT! *heavy sigh*"

As a dev at my day job, I never give estimates on things that I haven't at least had similar expertise with. Somehow that paranoia and caution didn't manage to sneak over into my translation of games *or* manga, which is how I get so far behind on things at times. I'm slowly learning, but... it is slow.

3rd - And finally - Thank you for all the effort you are putting into this.
Aaaaaand... now I'm all flustered and speechless. Thank YOU for taking the time to give me a bitch-slap of being really nice and having experience with this and also reaching out an olive branch and stuff... Ha... Yup, I suck at words now because of someone being nice. I will blame you for all typos that slip through my fingers from here on out. ;)

Thanks, it *is* fun! And I'll try to answer more to my own standards and less to the demands of the forum. That is solid advice. I'll try to not totally forget it in the last part of my message as I try to calm the curious masses.

For everyone who is wondering about the project progress:
We will 100% get this game out eventually. For anyone getting antsy about that, I promise that it'll come out long before you can take yourself from "Kore wa pen desu." (standard beginner level useless textbook Japanese) to playing the game in Japanese yourself and being able to debate which town name option is punnier to people of which English dialects (oh, and the argument about whether to use Brit or Yank spelling is especially fun when I'm Canadian and switch between "colour" and "color" based on how lazy I am on that day, or what my spellcheck is set to). If you prove me wrong and become fluent first (assuming you started at nothing), then I'll congratulate you on your amazeballs Jgo and then probably ask you to double-check all the kansai-ben shit talking that Shizuku does, or the hick talk that some of the townspeople use, or the annoying self-talk weirdness that the Catnap king uses, or some similar thing.

Oh, and I might not update for a couple of weeks. My country is a young one, but we throw a good party on the first of July. My mom and my country share the same birthday, so we're doing a large celebration and I might not be checking the forum much, even if I'm playtesting the game at airports and on trains and buses.

Have no fear, for Jabou will still be stealing souls even if I'm not talking about it.

Welcome. They have a lot of projects now.

It just became winter in Australia. You're doing fine. It'll be spring in Australia when it's fall in Canada. :D You got time.

let us members debug and test it for you.

We know it won't be a perfect bug-free game - even the pros don't usually get that right, and they are paid to do it. But we want to try to remove all the obvious problems. There were over 45 people who helped with this project over the past 4+ years, and with that comes some inconsistencies that you wouldn't get on a smaller team that worked from start to finish alone. BUT, the game is going to finish because of their help - if for no other reason than we didn't *all* burn ourselves out over the last few years (though many people did, and we are super indebted to them for their contributions).

So, we are going to fix the issues we can find easily, and then we will acknowledge that our first patch is going to still have a few things that we didn't manage to catch on our playtests. I guess what I'm saying is that every game ever made, including this one, ends up using the players to playtest it a bit in the end.

Everybody gets their way! Ha ha. :P
