How if you use luma updster wont it go tonthe latest?

you're correct. luma updater should install the latest hourly or normal version. however, this is only true if ur using the luma updater germane to ur hack method - a9lh or b9s. u have to install a different luma updater for b9s I believe, so u won't have the issue of updating to the wrong version. u can also manually update by dropping the file on to the root of the sd card. 7.1 and 8.0 r b9s only, so they won't work on a9lh. it's recommended u be on the latest a9lh luma before updating to b9s and b9s versions of luma.

I'm totally new to CFW on the 3ds and I'm a bit overwhelmed. I'm still deciding how I should start. I've got 3 3ds's, an old 3ds on probably 9.x, though I 'm not sure. I also have an old 3dsxl on 4.5, and another on 5.1. Every one needs a different method. Would I be better off updating to a specific firmware for all of them? Is there a better way to update? I'm so lost.

You should be able to use the browser method on all the ones less than 9.0, if they have browsers (look at the last number in the firmware). For the 9.x one, the browser method will probably also work of it is on 9.2 or less (with a browser). SoundHax is probably mentioned as the way to go with 9.0+ because it is easier.

Hi, I am using the DSiware injection method to hack my 11.4 o3DS using a cfw o3DS. Is there a way to restore the original NNID on the target system after system transfer?

Format, and sign back in. (Only if you don't system transfer back to the source - otherwise the target's NNID will be now linked to the source)

If I could do this, does this mean that my NNID (that was previously on my stock 11.4 3DS before system transfer) is still linked to the target console (ie my stock 11.4 3DS) even though there's a different NNID (transferred from the cfw 3DS) currently signed on? I thought you could only have one NNID for one console...

No, consoles can have an infinite number of NNIDs linked to them. But only one can be active at a time. If you want to sign into another one you have to format in between (there might be a way to make the current one inactive with software so you can sign into another - if you have a lot of games installed then you might want to research this).

I see, that's a relief. There are no games on the current NNID but there are a few legit games on my NNID (that had been overwritten during the system transfer). So basically, if I'm going to format, I'll have to complete the Dsiwarehax guide on the target 3DS first, do an SD backup, do a sysnand backup, format, and then reload the backups?

And then I can return the source NNID to the source 3DS by calling Nintendo? The source cfw 3DS I'm using isn't even mine so I'd like to return it to its original owner if I can.

Yes you can do all that. You might get an error when you try to link its NNID again - the console thinks it is connected to the target NNID. I think this can be overcome by holding X+Y when the error message is showing. Nintendo may or may not agree to move the NNID, but if they do then yep you can get all the NNIDs back where they belong.

Hi,
I'm purchasing a 2nd hand *New* 3DS XL with firmware 11.0.0-33E
I notice on 3DS guide the following statement
How do I know if the update was done via a cart update, or proper system update?

<quote> Note that Cart Updates will only deliver updates to core features, such as the System Settings, Home Menu, etc. Cart Updates will not deliver updates to Nintendo 3DS Sound and Network features, such as System Transfer, Internet Browser, StreetPass Mii Plaza, or eShop.

This means that using a Cart Update from a version containing an older Nintendo 3DS Sound version (<7.0.0 for Old 3DSs in the EUR, JPN, KOR, and USA regions) to one that introduced a newer Nintendo 3DS Sound version will break Soundhax! You will need an alternate method of entering the Homebrew Launcher! </quote>

You can see it from the part after the - of the version. Because it's 33, it was an online update so soundhax should work

Sounds like you just had homebrew. You'll need a second console that has CFW already (a9lh or b9s) if you want to install CFW on your console. Have a look at https://3ds.guide

Good morning. I set up CFW over the weekend. I was on 11.2, and I updated to 11.4 after, which I believe is only updated on emuNAND if I understand that correctly. My question is: do I need to downgrade my sysNAND to 9.2 or lower still? I want to get a flashcart and do some things with that.

And I suppose a followup question: is the Gateway pretty much the flashcart to get, like it seems to be?

Thanks!
