I would LOVE to have some custom songs that I can somehow place into my R4 chip for my NDS (The first DS released is the one I have) and be able to play! I mean.. it HAS to exist.. right? :wtf: The fact that there is one button on the "guitar" missing should, if anything.. be more convenient with people who want to create songs and share them with the world. As in less work for them.

This question isn't just for Guitar Hero DS either, but Rock Band 3, Band hero, etc! ANY custom songs that I can insert into my DS would be awesome. I would prefer Guitar Hero way more.. but I'll take anything at this point! haha

So tell me.. are there any out there? If so, how do I install them, and can you link them to me in the comments? :yaynds:

I always see people making songs on GH3 on Youtube for the past 8 - 10 years... hasn't anyone ever thought of how amazingly fun it would be to play custom home made songs on their DS? It could breath new life into an old Guitar Hero game for litteraly YEARS to come. Also.. if it's not created yet.. I say to any developer reading this: Make a program that allows gamers to easily create custom Guitar Hero DS songs, and you will become very, very popular, very fast.

But.... do any custom songs exist yet? THAT is the question *looks up* yep, that is litteraly my question. :P lol

There were some projects going on back in the day when the game came out but then there were some problems about repacking the songs I think and all projects were abbandoned (last time I checked was 2012 I think). I know there was some homebrew that was pretty much like Frets on Fire for DS and it worked with the GH DS "Guitar", but yeah don't get your hopes up

Yeah... not sure about that.
Possibly the worst version of the entire GH franchise = extremely limited fanbase when it was released = almost no fanbase now.

Yea I'm aware, but what I'm getting at is that it will BECOME popular if someone creates it. It wasn't popular because of songs and general reception due to those songs being well... those songs, BUT place amazing songs from today and tab it beautifuly, then share it all around the internet andddd yea... I guarantee 110% that people will be itching to try it out and play their favorite custom songs in the dentists office, or waiting in the doctors office. They will look on eBay and find that the original DS (not the lite, which breaks easily) is $20 and that the Guitar hero attachment with pick is litteraly $3.95.. and the rest is history.

Who cares about the past, if done correctly, I believe that new life can be breathed back into one of those games. With the technology of today one developer with a head on his or her shoulders and a want to be known for giving people something they never knew they wanted, will take the idea in this thread and run with it, and hopefully.. they won't trip.

PS: Just imagine playing Run by Foo Fighters, or Avenged Sevenfolds Hail to the King waiting on a long line at the grocery store. Yea... when I think of things like that, I myself get so excited with these possibilities just typing this.

What was the homebrew called? Could you link it?

I respect your optimism, but realistically I don't see it ever being that popular.
Rhythm/music games, in general, just aren't that popular anymore. Couple that with this 'project' requiring retro hardware and flashcards, and you reduce the intended audience further.

Maybe this is something you could learn how to do? it might get you in to rom hacking, you never know!

Your enthusiasm and passion is great, so your certainly motivated. Sadly I don't think the fan base is there DS. The Xbox 360 had a lot of custom songs back when the series was popular, however due to the game supporting DLC it was likely much easier on hacked 360's than it will be on the DS.

Good luck though!

Well, I don't wanna kill your enthusiasm, but the problems with this game don't just limit themselves at the selection of songs.
I don't know if you've played the game extensively, but at the very least you should have noticed how laggy it is. Most noticeably whenever you activate the power-up.
And lag in a rythm game is kind of a dealbreaker.

Last time I checked the ds costs 45$~ and the game costs 10$~, if you can prove me wrong I will be super happy. I wanna buy original ds instead of my dslite, which broke first time I dropped it. It works but holding the hinge (or however you write it) is annoying. Plus I wanted to buy the buttons of gh for the hb potential (programming in my free time...)

Well look at gamers on youtube playing custom games on GH3 everywhere. I would say that not only are those people using retro hardware that's just as retro as the GH3 controller, game, and the DS, but they also have to go scavanger hunting online for custom songs, and then insert into the program, and play.. Idk about you but that sounds like a ton of try hard just to play a custom song especially if you dont have the hardware, or even a PC or Mac. So if you want to play those custom games on a pc that would still require alot of work.. yet.. look at the huge community online still playing. If you make the game great enough, people will come. If custom GH3 has shown us anything, it's that.

I hear what you're saying, but take a look at the sales figures for GH3 and compare that to the figures for GH on DS. Also look at how many guitar peripherals were sold and how easy they are to find now for virtually nothing.
Guitar Hero on home consoles was ridiculously popular.
Guitar Hero on handhelds wasn't.

Go to eBay type what you want then customize the search, put free shipping, buy it now, then max price $20 or $25 for the DS, max price $5 for all the rest. You should find a red DS currently, unless it got sold already. Best of Luck!

Oh lag, how we all despise you're mighty touch...

Well, as I said above, it doesn't have to be the DS Guitar Hero games, there where also about 4 different types of games similar that where released. Rock Band 3, Band Hero, Rock Revolution, and another of which I forgot the name o.o Those can always be altered to have custom songs. I say pick the least laggiest game, and make it amazing.. and hey! Maybe just maybe the lag can be fixed by customizing the rom even more! If people can get Conker to work on emulators, they can deffinetly get the lag out of guitar heros star power! haha

Thanks! but.. Idk if I could do it as I don't really have a strong enough PC capable of running DS games, but even if I did I think it would be ahuge learning curve that would take me maybe 2 months to do? In a guess, and I'm busy with other things. lol Funny enough I do work semi in the field of games? haha I'm a professional voice actor in real life. :P So I would love to help anyone whowants to create this as best as I could, but I don't know how a voice actor would help haha I am very tech savvy, but again time constraints and all.

I sound like the Donald Trump of Guitar Hero DS :rofl2::rofl2: Oh God. lol I would actually.. believe me. lol but I dont have a PC with the backing power to mod a game, also I'm busy with life, but if anyone else with free time, a strong PC, and alot a patience wants to tackle this project, then I say go for it!! Could be a fun summer project. haha

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I think you need to prepare yourself for the more likely reality - that you're in a tiny minority of people that may want this.

Look at Steve Jobs for example, NO BODY wanted an iphone... untill it was made. lol and that is a good example, as people already had cell phones.. but what did he and Steve do? Make what people already had.. better.

So even if there is a small fan base left, that doesn't mean that there aren't more people secretly craving something new inside fir their handheld experience in 2017, and if Custum Guitar Hero DS is done right, it can certainly give people something not only new, but something that will stay fresh as long as the community it creates continues tabing and creating new songs! :)

The lowest price I found on ebay / amazon for ds was 35$ and for grip 6$. This doesnt include 10$ for r4 if someone would wanna buy it just for that. 55$ isnt attractive for buying an old game console from 2 gens ago that is used, and this doesnt include the time you need to put into setting this up (for a user). And there are not much ppl into music games anyways. 20$ is enough for a real proper guitar... what could work is a grip for the phone which somehow fits all the models of smartphones of all brands, and an app to install from the marketplace. No need to buy a seperate piece of hardware for running the game and just a grip (even wireless) wont cost too much (but still wont be 4$). This is also way easier to make such a game then r.e. an old game and repack... also will be probably less laggy, because the processor of a (3)ds is super weak compared to a modern phone...
