More than likely, this would be very unfeasible.

Currently, your only options to play videos are the 3DS Camera application, with restrictions, or converting it to "moflex" format.

If you are on New 3DS, you can also watch .mp4 videos with the browser.

Your only other option, in this case, would be to convert them to 10-minute avi files for the 3DS camera application.
Um...i am tryin' to avoid dat.

BTW, isn't moflex a format that can only be created using Nintendo's dev tools?

Why would you want to play videos on a Nintendo console, they are abysmally underpowered. Last time I tried to play a video on a Nintendo console, was on a DSi XL, through a flash card. The video resolutions were DVD standard (480p), and the performance was still awful, so higher definition videos are out of the question.

porting VLC to the 3DS would take too long, so creating one from scratch would be the only option. sadly not even the new3DS is capable of decoding most of the modern video formats at full speed (except Theora which can be decoded around 40-56fps on old3DS). and guessing you want to watch your videos normally, this idea goes down the drain

...unless you want to convert the videos on the 3DS into an usable format, wasting space and write cycles on the SDCard, and waiting for the conversion to end when a 268MHz CPU is doing it

Even with the codec limitations it or something like it would still be nice to have, especially on the n3ds which can handle mp4/h264, since the picture viewer is limited to 10 minutes at a time and the browser based player doesn't allow rewinding or fast forwarding if the video is too long.

What makes Theora so special that it can be decoded at around 40-56 fps on O3DS???

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.

Hope you've had a good morning.

It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
