So yeah, title says it all. Can anyone give me some encouragement? Soft resetting is a bitch. I'm looking for any starter, shiny, really. I know it's still early game, but I'm at around 100SRs right now and even though I shouldn't be surprised, still no shiny. But I'm usually super lucky. I know that doesn't really factor into anything. I know I could get it on my 101st try, or my 5,393rd try.

So yeah! Any motivation to keep me going would be great! Or just a discussion on shiny soft resetting would be great for motivation.

Thank you:)

In fact I have

Why not use cheats?

OH. MY. GOD. I spat out my beer. It's going along with his voice! Ahhh!! I love it!

-And I did on my Nidoking that I brought over from Gen 1, after trying for hours to get the "shiny-pokemon-from-gen-1" glitch working. I had to throw the poke away because it just didn't... feel worth it? If that makes sense? I didn't have any attachment to it. It felt fake.

... but mah shiny TOTO won't! B)

Well I'll condone it this once, at least you are playing the best generation.
I am so glad I have your approve, friend. :ha:

Even though I haven't shiny hunted in HGSS before, I give you good luck as a somewhat shiny hunter myself. Just persevere!
Thank you so much! I've been shiny hunting so much in Sun and Moon (and even caught a shiny Drampa - hardest thing to get, I swear.). I'm so stoked for the shinies to appear!

Goodluck with your shiny hunt!~

The first shiny I found unintentionally was a random encounter in Plat in Eterna Forest, it was a shiny cascoon :)
Thanks dude! I really appreciate it! And I'm sure it was a while ago, but congrats on finding that random shiny! :) I found a random Makuhita in ORAS, and then I found a shiny Absol and a shiny something else randomly in SUMO. Can't remember that second shiny though. But thank you!

4 days... damn. Haha! Glad you don't regret it! See, that's the feeling you get sexy@BORTZ ;) Whereas when you cheat, it's like, "Meh. I know it's fake... it doesn't feel special..."

If you keep going you'll get it eventually. That's all I've got.
Thanks man! And hey, your avatar makes me uncomfortable! I love it!

All but one of my shinys were completely random. in oras, I did horde encounters for 2 hours for a shiny spinda. ended up with like 3000 spinda encounters total.

Thanks so much guys!

Another question. If I double-up and start SRing on an emulator, on the PC, and I use save states, would it work too? Or does the shiny value revolve around each "reboot", if that makes sense? Like, I don't want to use save states, only to find that I'm running into the "exact versions" of the same starters each time lol

So far with save states, I keep choosing Chikarita, but I see NO differences. He's always:

Brave
HP: 20
Att: 11
Def: 12
Sp Att: 13
Speed: 9

With the ability, Overgrow.

So am I right in thinking that save states are keeping the values the same? Meaning the values reset upon actual reboot?

iirc, shiny seed is based on statup time. savestates keep that old time.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
