I currently own a R4i Gold 3DS (r4ids.cn) that I purchased from nds-card.com and I would like to know what cards should I avoid if I were to get a new flashcart.

The one you have is basically the best choice currently. You should anyway avoid the R4i Gold Pro/Dual Core/etc. 2017/1018 etc. (those with the current year in their name). They have a time bomb integrated.

The time bomb can be bypassed if you use YSmenu as the primary kernel but currently, based from my experience and my observation from other people, people are having trouble running some DSi-enhanced games (i.e. Pokemon B/W 1&2) using YSmenu using those cards you mentioned. So yeah, it's better to avoid those cards. Might as well invest on the pricey ones.

Just get another r4i gold 3ds rts (or a supercard dstwo plus if you want to spend more).
Does ysmenu even work correctly with the card? You can set the date back or use the kernel for the current card anyway.

Yes it does for most games. If ever you do use YSMenu, just avoid the Dsi-enhanced games (i.e. Pokemon B/W 1/2) as they would not completely work. Personally, the only reason I use the YSmenu in my R4 card is because it is a lot faster when scrolling through the games. Other than that, the game compatibility is better is you use the original kernel for the card.

The DSTWO+ is a good cart, but it drains the battery quickly (especially in the standard 3DS mode) and doesn't really need the gateway plugin.

But it has many advantages, too. AVI player, PDF reader, better emulators, better real time features etc.

R4 clones, and DSTwo+'s 3ds game function. It's known to brick many consoles.
