Hi guys, first time poster here. I got myself into some trouble and in looking around, I have not been able to find an answer, which is leaving me quite anxious now.

I have lost my homebrew channel and it is from my own stupidity.

I just updated my N3DS from boot9strap 1.0 and Luma 7.1, to boot9strap 1.2 and Luma 8.0. Everything is fine in that regards. System works as expected.

Now, I knew this new update came with Homebrew launcher 2.0.0, so in going through the system settings/data management/nintendo 3ds/software to clean things up, I saw an entry for homebrew launcher 1.3. I thought this was a redundant entry, since 2.0 was now installed, so went and removed it from my system, assuming 2.0 would still be there and I didn't need two installations. I was surprised to see that the homebrew channel was now off my home screen and there is no way to get it back, as far as I know. I had no idea that removing 1.3, would remove it altogether, meaning nothing is now left.

Did I totally screw myself here, in removing this the way I did? Is there a way to get it back, installed? I tried to find a 2.0 CIA, but cannot find it.

Now, I am VERY new to this, I only just updated my system with boot9strap 1.0 and Luma 7.1 last weekend and then updated it again last night (1.2 and 8.0), in seeing a new version out. I am completely new to all this outside of that, but I am hoping some of you more experienced individuals could kindly sort me out, on how I can get the new homebrew channel 2.0 installed on my system again, just like it was before I removed it?

Thanks so much in advance, I would really appreciate any and all help I can get.

Kind regards,

Andrew

Hi there, thank you so much for the very speedy reply. Very much appreciated.

So I have done just this. I downloaded the CIA file from the link you sent above and used FBI to install it. Sure enough, the homebrew channel is back on my home screen and in loading it up, it is showing as 2.0.0 Rosalina.

Very happy to have this back and to know that I didn't totally screw myself here.

I have to ask though, the file above is version 1.3, with a date of Feb. 11. How is that bringing me to 2.0.0 dated from June 5?

I am just curious if this is any different than what was installed yesterday with the Luma 8.0 update, or exactly the same thing?

Thanks again, you made my day here.

Because it's the homebrew launcher that is version 1.3. The Homebrew Menu is 2.0.

I see, so my ignorance is showing itself again. The launcher version is not the same as the program version and I assume homebrew channel 2.0 is 'baked' right into Luma 8.0, regardless of if I have the launcher active on my home screen or not and the launcher is simply allowing 2.0 to be loaded, as it is already present in the system?

I was under the impression the two were tied together and didn't realize homebrew channel was part of the firmware that I couldn't see.

I take it what I deleted from my system was simply the launcher application itself? I was concerned I had removed everything to do with homebrew with that one move, which is what left me paranoid.

Thank you so much for your patience with me and for your quick insight and help.

No problem ^_^
Yes, you only removed the launcher.

You don't need to install the homebrew launcher anymore as you can launch the new-hbmenu from most of the titles on your 3DS.
Just open an app, press L+d-pad down and select -> miscellaneous -> set as hb.. close the app and reopen it.
As long as you have the new boot.3dsx on your sd card it should launch.
And some apps don't work like health and safety on N3DS but Tuxsh just closed the issue so they won't fix it or have a fix on the way I guess.

Pretty sure the "set as hb" mode resets after a reboot. It's more convenient to have that launcher.

Yeah that's true, but I want to be cautious with all the bans occuring I want to keep the sysNAND with all my bought titles as clean as possible.
And having no unofficial titleids in my activity log is as good as it gets.

Simple fix, if you don't have FBI or something: Find an app you dont really use, launch it, press L+Down+Select, go to miscellaneous options, select "Switch the hb. title to the current app.", wait a little, restart the app and et voila. You need to do this over and over when you restart, though. If you have FBI, just install the HBL Loader CIA and you're done. However, if you don't have it and you would like a more permanent method, you would need a certain payload for Luma, Decrypt9WIP. Please only ask me for this if it is necessary, since I currently am on a PW:AA Spirit of Justice case. (Note: You need to do some tweaking in Decrypt9WIP, however, I will only say if you truly need it since I'm too lazy right now)

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also, what you deleted was the 1.3 version of the Homebrew Launcher LOADER! They both have different versions.

Thanks so much guys, really awesome to have so much support and such quick replies too! I was really thinking about removing the home icon, after reading what I did above, but if it resets after each reboot, that is a bit tedious, having to reset it all the time, so it seems like the home icon launcher, is still the easier and fuss free way to go. I did have latest FBI installed, so thanks to Lia, I am back in business, by simply installing the 1.3 CIA again.
