I digged up my old Acekard 2i and discovered the time bomb of the R4i Gold PRO from http://r4isdhc.com/, so I was wondering, which one's better: Acekard 2i with latest AKAIO or R4i Gold PRO with ysmenu?

The Acekard 2i is an excellent card. The only real downside is that it won't work on an unmodified console these days.

With the alleged Acekard 2i card-internal firmware flashing for the DS-mode (Start-Select-X) bootrom hack, wouldn't it be possible to write a customized bootloader that isn't blacklisted so the Acekard 2i will work fine with 3DS 11.4.0 firmware? This doesn't have to be a huge rewrite, just enough for the 3DS to no longer block it.

Edit: this is for people that don't want to run CFW, just plain vanilla OFW for their 'main' rig in order to minimize ban-risk

Get the AceKard 2i. You'll be able to play all your DS games, and you'll eventually be able to install B9S on any 3DS with it

That won"t be possible becuase the can"t be updated because a hardware limitation, that since the current TWL_FIRM checks that the game card has a proper savegame EEPROM. The only way to run it in the lastest Firmware is running it through an Action Replay that"s compatible with 3DS.
I"m not sure in that case of the DSi System Update 1.4.5, that since I don"t know and I haven"t checked what Nintendo exactly did in that update.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
