Hi Everyone,

I am finally deciding to ditch gateway, and it looks like quite a pain to proceed, but I want to stay up-to-date and go with what makes sense (following the guide here: https://3ds.guide/get-started-(new-3ds)).

Before I start, I want to first share my dilemma.

Basically, I want to transfer as many of my gateway .sav files to .cia as I can, as well as switch my microSD cards.

As for transfering the saves, I have found two methods online to do this:

  1. The JK SaveManager Method found here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/importing-gateway-saves-to-cia-games.425743/
  2. The SaveDataFiler Method found here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutoria...v-to-eshop-3ds-3dz-with-savedatafiler.380246/
Unfortunately, neither method explains whether I need to migrate over to CFW first or whether I need to make these changes within the emuNAND before then switching my console to CFW.

So my first question is, can I migrate to the CFW first, wipe the emuNAND, then somehow use my gateway card within CFW to export and import my saves to .cia?

My second question is that since I want to switch my current microSD to a 128GB one, should I go ahead and start the process in the guide from the start with the new microSD card, or should I do that after I have completed installed the CFW and then switch?

Thanks for all your help, hopefully I can do this today =).

  1. Backup all of your saves with JKSM to SD card.
  2. Switch to CFW
  3. Copy all files to New SD card (emuNAND stays on old one so don't worry)
  4. Download all of your games and install them as .cia
  5. Inject saves.

This process will undo the CFW work though. I don't want to stay with gateway anymore, they simply don't seem interested in keeping up with the changes to the scene.

Thanks for the links!

Could you clarify those?

Do you mean switch to the CFW on the old micro sd card, and then copy everything to the new SD card (it won't copy emuNAND of course)?

Alternatively, I could actually use the emuNAND tool to copy over everything to a new sdcard, and to the process from there. Thoughts?

Yeah:
Once you backup all of your saves, move all of your files from the original SD to the new one.

Then, on the new SD (if you are using emuNAND you obviously have an ARM9 entrypoint), just install B9S. This is on the new SD. It really doesn't matter which SD you do it on because the end result will still have B9S. I would just suggest doing it on the new SD because you won't accidentally do anything on emuNAND.

TL;DR: it doesn't matter as long as you end up installing CFW and copying your files

Obviously you have to export your saves first because you need access to Gateway mode to do this.

Thank you both! I am currently working to proceed with soundhax on the new microsd card, and i have backed up most of my saves (unfortunately I didn't realize deleting the pokemon roms meant losing the pokemon saves =/).

Yeah. Losing a Pokemon save is like losing an entire game. Sometimes it isn't even worth it to start over

Thankfully I completed all the games. I just can't really play them again, since I can't spend all that time grinding to get the parties I had. It's a shame.

On an unrelated note, installing .cia files is a total pain. It takes forever for them to install!

Are there any important .cia programs I should install?

FBI can install a folder of cias and delete them as they are installed. But you do need to make sure you have a bit more than double the amount of space of what your largest cia is for installing free on the sd card.

As for how long, yeah it does take forever to install... I go do something else while they install.

Thanks for all your help everyone. Everything is up and running :).

One more question. There should be no problem going to the eShop to get updates on this setup right?

Glad you could make it to the B9S master race. I moved to cfw a long time ago and currently evaluating on selling my GW card and to try and get something back while I can.

Answer, to that question, yes updates are fine when using CIA's of your own console region with E-shop. Otherwise, out of region CIA's will need a manual update, as a US e-shop will not update a EU or JP game.
