Can this game be played on Wii U via loadiine? Sorry I've been out of the game for a while and was wondering if this is compatible? I've googled it and found only information playing it on PC but nothing concrete about on Wii U. TIA

It works, but load times are extreme, I would say it's barely playable.
Just use wupinstaller. I used wupinstaller for that one game only (already have all the rest on disc or in Loadiine format)

I still use Loadiine for certain games but don't do it for Zelda. If you don't want to invest in a full hard drive just get a $15 sandisk flash drive and you can install Zelda right on your dash and play it that way with 100% speed.

Or of course if you have the space you can just install it into your factory hdd.
