Gaming what's the status of ps3 CFW in 2017

if i get a console now, not already modded what can i do?
if the console is the fat first model, will it give me any advantages in installing cfw, or is the firmware version the only thing that really matters?

if the console is updated to the last firmware, what options do i have? i am interested in full CFW.. (like the psp, wii etc)

i am making a thread because i want to know the final veredict.. i don't think sony will update this console anymore (unless for misc stuff, like removing some small thing) so i think it's relevant to make this thread

Well your options is to.... Sell your system and get a new one on lower firmware, that or wait until one exist for your system.

Yes, PS3 must be either 3.41 or 3.55 to be jailbreak. It doesn't matter which size.. PHAT or SLIM as long as they have a 3.41 or 3.55.

There's also Cobra ODE. I don't know about its compatibility, though.

it's not about not wanting to buy games..
it's the hability to have the disc (or getting through the internet), and copy into the inside of the console.. i hate to deal with discs...
also homebrew in general... the freedom....

Super Slims, and some select normal Slims, can't be downgraded to 3.55 or lower. Other than that, any other PS3 is able to be modded with CFW.
I bought a pre-modded Slim myself and it was well worth the money. Combined my PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP gaming all into one console, as well as being able to use some useful homebrews and having the ability to switch over to DEX firmware to try out some dev-specific tools.

Rebug is mostly considered the definitive CFW by a wide margin. It comes bundled with WebMAN for direct backup loading from the XMB (although sMAN seems to be taking over today, but I find WebMAN works equally well), >3.55 OtherOS++ support for Linux booting, plugin support, fan speed control (via WebMAN/sMAN), and Cobra PS2 mode support. There are a couple of other cool things, but I don't remember all of them.

On 4.7x/4.8x, afaik the only thing available is the backup injection method, which I believe only works with retail games.

Hey, if you have a Phat pretty sure it's downgradable. the models are usually 2xxx that can be downgraded by flashing and then jailbroken. I'm pretty sure you can check out local modders in your area and have them install a CFW in it.

Yes. Use the flasher to downgrade to 3.55 or below. So that u can jailbreak and install CFW

If the console has been in 3.55 out of the factory previously then yes, all Phats and a good few models of the slims can be downgraded.

This is not true well at least in America. I had a 3001A Slim (not a Super Slim, just a Slim I bought in 2011) that could not be downgraded. It requires 2001 or less to downgrade so I found one of those downgraded it now I'm profiting.

i remember seing a method about a fake "dummy" update, that would revert the console to the original firmware, more info on this?
