Splatoon Girl Hand Gesture Removed from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Deemed "Offensive"

On the recent update of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe v1.1 Nintendo has removed the hand gesture of Splatoon Girl because some people might feel offended by it.

This is insane. Even Mario Kart isn't safe from what this or that might be considered "offensive." :(

Splatoon Girl was only doing the hand gesture "YES!" and this is deemed unacceptable.

For those that may defend the censorship, there are people who may indeed find it disrespectful but that's them and in real life, this is a fictitious, harmless video game that should be left alone from being censored.

Offensive to whom and why? This gesture is universally understood as one of triumph all around the world, it's not exactly a Nazi salute or a middle finger. This kind of censorship offends me more than others because it's based or kowtowing to people who invent reasons to be outraged, and if you give them an inch, you're giving them a mile, every single time.
Erm, no the Bras d'honneur is pretty offensive:

It's just a bit more offensive than a middle finger for:
  • French
  • Italians
  • Spaniards
  • Argentines
  • Brazilians
  • Others

Pretty much unknown in the UK, got slapped in the face by French women once when I had my arms like that.
Nah, she just wanted to slap you and was looking for an excuse :tpi:

From the same page:
"In Poland, the gesture is known as wał or gest Kozakiewicza ("Kozakiewicz's gesture") after Władysław Kozakiewicz, who famously displayed this gesture after winning the gold medal in the pole vault at the 1980 Summer Olympics in front of a hostile crowd in Moscow.[4] This coincided with the rise of the Solidarity Union in Poland in 1980."
As you might imagine, I'm quite fond of it. It's one of my favourite ways of showing someone to "get f*cked" without actually being offensive. :tpi:

Well he probably did it to offend a few of those people in the crowd, definitely a universal fuck you.

Kind of realized that.
E.g.: this Argentine soldier was trying to send a message after losing the Malvinas/Falklands war, and the people from the BBC didn't even realize:

PS: non political post, just there for the amusement/LOLs.

It's not really an offensive gesture so much as it's a gesture of defiance in my culture. It can translate to many things depending on context, but the common denominator is basically "you're not getting anything from me, not even an inch", and yes, it's meant to be an aggressive dismissal or rejection. The context is simple - a Polish athlete in Moscow was meant to fail. "You're not getting that" was the response.

That gesture, which means strenght in Japan, means "up your ass" everywhere else in the world. Last time I checked, Splatoon was sold everywhere in the world.

Also it's not the first time. There were sprites in pokemon with the same gesture but were edited before localisation for the same reason.

I think most of you don't understand how some people could see this as "offensive." In the US, the gesture used by the Inkling Girl could be seen as "Up Yours," which is short for "Shove it up your ass."
