i am wary of prii loader as i have never used it but does any one know where to get a modchip

Priiloader's regon-free should work. I'm not even sure where you would find a Wii modchip anymore. I think they're all discontinued. Priiloader isn't any less "safe" than a softmod or adding hardware to the console.
