IDK... the whole series of games is great - they're all still insanely playable (I still play SMK and MK64 fairly regularly), and people will always have their favourites.
Personally, my favourite is still Double Dash.

That's kinda my point. There were a ton more Wiis sold than Wii U's and both consoles can play the Wii version so that's likely while it's more popular. More people have access to it.

I understand that mkwii is the weakest out of the 8 (9?) games. However, the fact that i an have over 200 tracks in one game is pretty awesome.

Battle mode (at least it was fixed in MK8DX) + nostalgia
I remember how much time I spent on MKWii when I was 6-9 years old. I suck in racing with motion controls so I played only battle mode. And I'll tell you right now, even though the battle mode was expended in MK8DX, THE BATTLE STAGES IN MKWii ARE THE BEST in my opinion.
