Homebrew I'm looking to homebrew my Wii U and I have a couple of questions before I do so...

First of all thanks to anyone one in advance who answers my following questions

1. If I hombrew my Wii U will I be able to download ISOs from online and play it on my Wii U without having to install a CFW. And if that is the case is there a "Free shop" kind of program like the 3DS that allows me to directly download games online?

2. If I need to install a CFW how high is the risk that I could brick my Wii U? The 3ds has 3ds.guide which gives very clear steps and updates regularly, is there something like that for a Wii U CFW?

3. If there's a potential update for the Wii U (which is unlikely at this point) what could happen if I update it with a homebrewed Wii U?

Thanks again.

1. Yeah, basically. You can download/dump/acquire and install disc-based games (those that had a disc release) without a CFW. For eShop-only content (including DLC) you'll need to have a CFW. There's no freeshop, and there's unlikely to ever be one - it's easy enough to do everything you need with a PC. Check out this thread and this app.

2. There's actually a wiiu.guide as well, though there's debates about some of the recommendations in there. Check out lots of different guides (like wiiubru.com/guide. AVOID YOUTUBE) and see which one ends up with the Wii U you'd like. As for brick risk, it depends on what you'd like to do: unlike the 3DS, there isn't really one or two "right answers" to how you should homebrew your system - you have a myriad of options. Again, check out guides and see what's available. Browserhax and haxchi are totally safe, while CBHC has caused some bricks due to user error.

3. Who knows? Any decent guide will set up some kind of update blocking so you won't have to worry about it; though if you still managed to install an update you could either be totally fine or seven levels of screwed. There's no way to know in advance; although keep in mind that Nintendo hasn't updated the console since January... 2016; and that we can completely block the updates with a method that worked for numerous 5.3.2 users back in the day. It's not something you need to worry about.

Thanks, I actually just looked at the wiiu guide and "installing" Mocha CFW (or from what I can understand, you're technically launching the CFW everytime) is simple enough and seems to have no risks.

Grr. Recommending crap over our guides, look at wiiubru.com/guide instead unless you want to see more bricked Wii U's here because wiiu.guide doesn't include NAND dumping part.

So...

Wiiubru.com/guide >>> wiiu.guide ?

Installing mocha seems to have no risks but I'll take a look at the other guide and check it out myself. Thank you.

Edit: So I read the Guide and I'm confused on one part. So to install backed ups on the Wii U, I don't know if I'm missing something or I'm just reading it wrong but can I use the same WUP method stated in the guide for the Mocha CFW or do I have to use the Haxchi CFW?

Both. You use it for both, nothing changes
