Nintendo stops offering repairs for original 3DS

image.png

With the advent of the New 2DS XL, it seems like Nintendo is slowly phasing out support for its original line of 3DS handhelds. As seen on the Nintendo of America support site, Nintendo no longer offers send-in repairs for the old 3DS. The 3DS XL and 2DS are still supported, however. What does Nintendo recommend to do if your original 3DS stops working? To buy a N3DS, of course!

Nintendo no longer offers factory repairs for the original 3DS system. Newer 3DS family products, (Including the 3DS XL and 2DS) are still being repaired.

To be honest, I haven't touched my 3DS in a couple of months. I've had it hacked since the legendary 1000 page 3DS gatewait thread. I don't really have time, and while I would love to replay some of the pokemon games (I left pokemon at the start), I simply don't have time.
Besides that, too many anime oriented games, they just send shivers down my spine when I hear about them.

honestly I don't see why they don't just sub contract repairs to someone else and rake in money for repairs as long as people are willing to pay for it

First with the 2DS and now the New 2DS XL, it looks like signs that Nintendo wants to move as far from that 3D effect as they can and leave it in the past. After all, the 3D on 3DS was primarily used as a gimmicky feature to sell the 3DS but after time passed it shows Nintendo people just didn't care about that gimmick.

Eh. Probably all of the O3DS systems out there are past the warranty, so it's not a huge loss.

I don't think this is even about warranty coverage. This is re: Nintendo's mail-in repair service, which is for equipment no longer covered by warranty. They will fix your broken thing, if it is still on the list of devices supported by the service, for a price. And as I mentioned above, it has never really been a cost-effective solution.

This makes me furious. I love Nintendo, but it's not like the Old 3DS is as old as Windows XP. It's only a couple years old! It should be supported until the 3DS as whole ends in support. I have an Old 3DS and I know there is more faster, superior versions, but the Old 3DS is still home with thousands of people. That's just my opinion of this.
