Nintendo stops offering repairs for original 3DS

image.png

With the advent of the New 2DS XL, it seems like Nintendo is slowly phasing out support for its original line of 3DS handhelds. As seen on the Nintendo of America support site, Nintendo no longer offers send-in repairs for the old 3DS. The 3DS XL and 2DS are still supported, however. What does Nintendo recommend to do if your original 3DS stops working? To buy a N3DS, of course!

Nintendo no longer offers factory repairs for the original 3DS system. Newer 3DS family products, (Including the 3DS XL and 2DS) are still being repaired.

I noticed this a LONG time ago, old news is old
Actually, I'm pretty sure that they announced a while ago that they were going to stop offering repairs soon (but at that time still were). Now they finally stopped. So this news is relevant.

Good. The system should be well on its way towards complete retirement, even the N2DS XL is a mistake in my opinion. Just today I sold an N3DS XL because a customer didn't want to wait and the price difference didn't warrant patience. The Switch should be the star now, the 3DS needs to go. Third-party developers will still continue to make games for it, just like they have for the PS2, PS3 and the 360 before it, regardless of whether Nintendo continues to support it.

Seriously, it's only six years since its release and they're abandoning it? And it doesn't match with their saying to support 3DS till 2018. Are they officially ditching O3DS users?

Just wait until they stop offering their infamous "stability" updates. Smealum will go crazy.

I don't think they really intend on supporting it until 2018 honestly, i see that as more of a lie to assure people they're still buying a somewhat relevant console/handheld so that they can still make money off of it until it dies.

I dunno if that's actually true or not but this news kinda suggests to me that the assumption isn't entirely wrong.

At best, i see them only supporting the N3DS models until 2018.
