Nintendo just paid off 3 people for the HackerOne Program

01b07c077f.png

Last year, Nintendo debutted its HackerOne program that involved giving a bounty of range of $100 - $20,000 to hackers that disclose their system exploits and vulnerabilities for the 3DS. Everyone thought it wouldn't work out for Nintendo, but just around last month the program was extended to include the Nintendo Switch too.

Just recently as you can see in the picture, three people were rewarded so far, however the amounts paid will not be made public. It seems as if a few hackers wouldn't mind giving out their newfound exploits for some easy cash, hopefully for the sake of the Switch hacking scene, it isn't the same with our own resident hackers.

A few examples of what information Nintendo is interested in receiving:
  • System vulnerabilities regarding Nintendo Switch
    • Privilege escalation from userland
    • Kernel takeover
    • ARM® TrustZone® takeover
  • Vulnerabilities regarding Nintendo-published applications for Nintendo Switch
    • Userland takeover
  • System vulnerabilities regarding the Nintendo 3DS family of systems
    • Privilege escalation on ARM® ARM11™ userland
    • ARM11 kernel takeover
    • ARM® ARM9™ userland takeover
    • ARM9 kernel takeover

In my days, we didn't even have the internet to look up a cheatcode. We had to get good at the game. I suggest you do the same.
ya know, homebrew also means depending what is possible with the exploit makeing fan translations of games possible, look at the english translation of puyo puyo tetris 3ds

so far, we gotten a good track record of multi lang releases then again that will probably change. There are probably more exploits than they found, plus if there are info out there for exploits, it's a hint never the less.

there will always be jp language only titles that so many people love that they attempt to translate

I'll do what I want, when I want, and however I want.
The same goes for the person that researches and finds vulnerabilities and wants to make a buck. But no, there you go standing in a higher moral ground made of your own poop, feeling like you can criticize and feel well... ENTITLED.

Hmmmm, release an exploit to Nintendo so I get paid and can put it in my resume when job hunting in the future?
Or release it to a bunch of script kiddies and have literally nothing out of it, not even their gratitude?
OR put a donation drive for the exploit and release it when it hits a certain treshold (which will never be hit with those ungrateful people)

If anyone doesn't see what I'm getting at, then you shouldn't even comment.

well, it's always better than hack the SWITCH , and allow you the UNGRATEFUL people to pirate as much as hell for FREE.

That's the give/take risk. Give homebrew, take piracy. This is why Linux on the PS3 was much loved, and the system was entirely uncracked up until Sony decided to play silly bugger and remove Linux from the Slims.

Pretty much every company should have noted that. Give people a sandboxed area to play with and let them run wild. Homebrew AND no piracy.

When you are able to run HB on switch, it's equally to have the KEY to open Pandora box, nothing will prevent you from the tentaction to open it (isoloader).

Honestly I wish we could support more gamedevs by buying their products, it's the way to encourage they to bring us more great games, hacking switch will simply kill it.
If people can't afford to buy original cartridges, it's time to get a job, and stop asking money to ur mommy :)

So that's why magazines like Nintendo Power designed with cheat codes and mini guides for older games were really popular way back then?
Some games used to come with hotline phone numbers in the manual you could ring for guides/cheats. I remember being stuck on the original Thief for PC and resorting to calling the number.

This one gave you an audio walkthrough of the level, your one reminds me of the old Games Workshop rules hotline that you could call to prevent you from smaking your smug cheating mate in his fat geeky face, they normally just told you to roll for if :/ c***s lol
