Basically, I'm planning to buy a Wii U from CEX. I'm planning to install the homebrew channel on Wii mode using smash stack, and I was wondering what would be the biggest size SD card I could use. I know that people say that you can only use 2gb or less, but I've hacked a regular Wii running 4.3 before and a 32gb one works fine. So maybe a certain update might support them. Also I am planning to run Wii U homebrew too, which will take up lots of space on the SD card. So would it be possible to use an 8gb or even 32gb card? Maybe not for installing the vWii exploit but afterwards for running homebrew?

You can, and I recommend, hack your vwii with wii u mode, using wuphax :

So you don't have to care about the smash bros exploit and the low size sd card. And yes, after you hacked vwii you can use big sd card as long as they fat 32 formated, just like the 3ds i think.:) And you can use the same sd card for wii u and vwii^_^
Plus you need big sd card to install wii u game (if you care about piracy:evil:).

@olimar718 is correct. You don't have the same limitations when using WUPhax. Those SD card limits were only valid "back in the day" (before Wuphax)

I actually hacked my vwii using IndianaPowns with a small sd card and then afterwards I just transferred the data to a large sd card and it works fine. I'm not sure how easy Wuphax is (I've never tried it myself), but if it's easier to do the old hacks this should work for you if you have a small sd card laying around.

It's pretty easy. It just replaces the mii channel long enough to install HBC. No disc games required or special saves
