Do you guys believe someone somewhere has discovered the cure for cancer?

But because of how lucrative it is to treat the disease rather than outright cure it there is no incentive in releasing such info to the public.

I understand how cancer is and how there is no all in one cure for all type but hypothetically if there was would this be a realistic possibility?

Cancer is a bitch.

Perhaps someone has found it out but it is still testing it before releasing it to public to be sure there's no huge side-effects

Very likely but because it's so lucrative it's being kept in secrecy.

Nope, considering the very mechanism of cancer, how it works and can differ depending on where the cancer is, I am going to have to say no, on that one.

But say that there is just "a" cancer disease, yes, I do believe that one will share the information of a cure for it.

What people will do with such information, is another story.

I think that if they actually had a cure they would release it. They would not put in all that effort into developing a cure if they had no intention of releasing it.
Probably not. From what I understand each case of cancer is different. Unless someone made medical nanobots that devour those abnormal cells faster than they're created.
From what I've read there are ways to identify (most types of) cancer, they just need to turn that into medicine somehow.
Progress so far seems promising, and like it would most likely be released on the market within 10-20 years.
But of course it won't be cheap.

Like zombies? We all know what happened in "I Am Legend". As for a current day cure, I hear that weed helps lol. Not making fun of ppl with Cancer tho. In all honesty I really do hope a cure or better treatment is released soon. It's sad to see so many people lose their life to Cancer.

Not only zombies, but adding new diseases, mutations into body (not transforming into a monster,i mean by affecting normal creation of protein/hormone something of this kind) or any stuff of that kind.

I gotcha. I thought of that as well. I just wanted to add some levity to this thread. :) Besides, we already have enough worries with new strains of highly resistant bacteria :/

Cancers have been cured, Cancer is more of a class of disease than a specific ailment. There will probably never be a single pill or shot that just cures cancer.

That said yes, medical advancements are suppressed all the time. Just look at Ruth Bader Ginsberg, I think it was Pancreatic cancer she has with a high fatality rate in short order and she has gone on over a decade. We have systemic technology suppression in every field. To believe current institutions you would have to believe we haven't had a major advance in aeronautic propulsion since 1959.

Last person to cure anything major was Jonas Saulk, who was a proponent against patent medicine.

There are many types of cancer. There's unlikely to be a "one size fits all" cure anytime soon, if ever. That would be like asking, "Have they found a cure for virus yet?" So, the premise of this thread is already flawed.

Considering the financial and moral benefit of releasing a cure to one or more cancers, I don't see why it would be hidden away. There are plenty of people in the field of cancer research who are removed from the current cancer-treating business, and there would be no financial reason for them to withhold a cure.

Doesn't chemotherapy count as a cure?
No, it's not a cure.

Cancer is an umbrella name for over 200 diseases. I actually recommend watching Vsauce's video on Cancer to get some lighthearted but serious information about cancer, why it happens, and such.

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.

I remember seeing the very first episode back in the day, and have watched every episode since. I used to set my VCR to record them even, shows how long ago.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just like any comedies really, and cartoons have always been a favorite of mine. Family guy, American Dad, Futurama, Cleveland Show, Simpsons - I like them all.

South Park is great cause they always touch on relavent issues going on today, and make something funny out of it.

  • S @ salazarcosplay:
@BigOnYa were you always up to date on the current events and issues of the time or were there issues that you first found out thru south park
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Most of the time yea I knew, I watch and read the news regularly, but sometimes the Hollywood BS stuff, like concerning actors slip by me. I don't follow most Hollywood BS (example: the Kardasians)

  • S @ salazarcosplay:
@BigOnYa there were relevant issues before south park was made, that's why i think a south park prequel/spinoff would be great. Randy and his friends in their child hood

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, like them running in high school together, getting into stuff, and how they got hitched and had kids. And how the town of South Park was back then compared to now. That would be cool to see.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
    yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@salazarcosplay if they made a prequel, it would still be about current issues, cause it doesn't make sense to make it about stuff that happened 30 years ago that nobody cares about anymore
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's too late
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the older south park episodes about particular issues usually age poorly since the topic is no longer relevant

an exception is giant douche vs turd sandwich, that's always relevant :P
