This may sound incredibly stupid but as we've heard in statistics for years how piracy especially for more modern systems (3DS and Wii U for example) is so very niche that it's either not common knowledge or people are too worried about "messing up" and breaking their system. Let's say hypothetically these modern systems were modded right out the box and they can play any game they want for that given system would people still be willing to pay for the games they enjoy to support the developers that made these games or just say "fuck it" just kick back and take the free option all day every day.
The main reason I ask this question is because of the NES Classic. As I hope some of you know it's just an emulation box that's far from accurate as a real NES playing those games. Emulation has existed for decades and yet people are willing to spend out the ass to get their hands on this product even though they themselves most likely already own a device that can play these games with more games and with greater options. A lot of other factors are taken into consideration too like it's collectible but what does this say about the original NES which can play games more accurately and for far greater cost? (compared to eBay prices for the NES Classic)
I'm just at a loss and I'm trying to figure out if people are that ignorant about emulation or not.
P.S. I do not condone piracy in any way. I encourage you all to pay for games you do enjoy. Thank you.
