If the existence of piracy was more common knowledge would more people favor it?

This may sound incredibly stupid but as we've heard in statistics for years how piracy especially for more modern systems (3DS and Wii U for example) is so very niche that it's either not common knowledge or people are too worried about "messing up" and breaking their system. Let's say hypothetically these modern systems were modded right out the box and they can play any game they want for that given system would people still be willing to pay for the games they enjoy to support the developers that made these games or just say "fuck it" just kick back and take the free option all day every day.

The main reason I ask this question is because of the NES Classic. As I hope some of you know it's just an emulation box that's far from accurate as a real NES playing those games. Emulation has existed for decades and yet people are willing to spend out the ass to get their hands on this product even though they themselves most likely already own a device that can play these games with more games and with greater options. A lot of other factors are taken into consideration too like it's collectible but what does this say about the original NES which can play games more accurately and for far greater cost? (compared to eBay prices for the NES Classic)

I'm just at a loss and I'm trying to figure out if people are that ignorant about emulation or not.

P.S. I do not condone piracy in any way. I encourage you all to pay for games you do enjoy. Thank you.

Meh. I personally just pirate games i'm unsure about like Far Cry 4 and blah, blah.
Developers nowadays dropped demos and i want to know if X game can run on my toaster just fine.

Emulation? Emulation doesn't mean piracy. NES mini is a collector's item now, it's a mimick which hardly even does what NES did right. The ability to load more ROMs onto it, is just using left over space. Seriously, i'm not paying for pirated roms that are put into their small "RetroPi-like" box.
If you didn't know, Super Mario Bros. WiiWare title was actually a pirated ROM! So Nintendo can hate all they can on pirates, they're basically using them to their advantage.

I'm not forcing you. You're forcing yourself by making that statement.
Didn't I just say that the NES Classic is an emulation box?

So are you saying that I'm saying Nintendo is condoning piracy by selling this product? Is Nintendo condoning piracy on Wii, 3DS, and Wii U since their virtual console service is emulation.

Emulation = piracy ????

Read the topic before responding next time.

Somebody can't read. Emulation doesn't mean piracy.
I didn't said that Emulation = Piracy, get your stuff together.

You are making the claim that I said that (which you aren't really proving.) Not sure how you came to that conclusion.
Emulation itself, isn't piracy. But ROMS are. ex. If you download ROMS off internet without supporting artist who worked really hard to create it and you share it around teh interwebz. [Sharing warez without permission]
Piracy doesn't apply when: your own bought cartridge and your own ROM, or x warez allowed you to host x game ROM for free.

Proof that Nintendo even uses pirated ROMs in their WiiWare/VC titles:
EuroGamer's Article from not that long ago
Either way, if it's legal or not, both sides are profiting off themselves.

Can you still find a original NES games? If you're very lucky.
Can you still find 1850 cassettes? No. This is where something as "pirating" doesn't exist. You're just saving x software from being gone, forever without anyone knowing it.
That's why you can see DOS games, ROMs and other stuff. It's impossible to find for example Sega Genesis 32-bit converter so you can support even more games.
But no, one can argue, right?

I never even said ROMs once in my post. You can check for yourself and see I didn't even edit my post. I left it out on purpose because that's up to the user on how to acquire them whether they want to create backups from games they own or download off the internet. As you notice too I didn't even say download either.

So unless you are trying to give me a lesson in how the law works, please don't put words in my mouth. You can see for yourself clear as day I never made any statements that you are claiming I said.

You made those claims basically with this ^

Free vs paid?
Personally, I started pirating because I was poor. I normally only got new stuff once or twice a year and games were scattered about. So I started hacking my systems to pirate my games and I also learned how repair my own electronics so I didn't have to buy new ones.
My point is, piracy saved me a lot of money when I didn't have a lot of money to spend. People are going to go with the option to save money vs spending it. If one didn't spend over 60$ on a new game, then that same person now has money to spend on something else or simply to save for the future.

That wasn't in my initial post. That was made towards you after the fact when you made the claim to me how I said emulation is piracy. I was asking for clarification on what YOU think I said because what you think I said isn't what was actually said. Just like I'm asking you now.

It's obvious now you are putting words in my mouth when you can't even find the statement from the initial posting.

Nice to see you back. Thought you quit the temp for good.

Also, if you are still able to pirate now what's to stop you from continuing It? Is it a moral obligation or do you feel the devs deserve to be paid for their amazing work (which I feel that way too)

Hey i'm not telling you or forcing you to adapt it. I'm just telling facts why emulation isn't piracy, it can do many good things.
But anyways, i told what i had to tell and i'm out.
Oh, btw it was my opinion and i contributed to thread so... *shrugs*

Given the power to get what they want free, evidence shows very few would take the other option.

Given that freeshop is so much easier and more reliable, few people would choose the buggy slow mess title eShop.
The Stanford Prison Experiment has been discredited many times, it did not account for sample size, or the family and financial backgrounds of the students.

So you are telling me something I already know and furthermore something I never claimed in the first place? If you just want to shit post things I never said you are welcome to leave.

Never providing proof in my initial post proves my point.

Nowadays I only pirate near impossible games to find. Games that I went out of my way to find and more often than not, I find with find with a stupidly high price tag. Then if I can't find it for cheap online and I can't find it within a 50 mile radius of me, I pirate it. I also pirate my own games when I am too lazy to dump my own backup.
You can't really leave something once you are 7 years in.

But you still never proved where I made the claim you want to pin on me so badly. Therefore I do feel that you are just shitposting at this point.

I think people buy things like the NES Classic because it provides convenience. No need to go figure out ebay to buy an nes, no need to setup an emulator. Simply plug it in and go. People are lazy and/or busy. They just want something that works and they are willing to pay for it
