So recently I bought a PS4 and since it has remote play, one of the things I adore, I've been interested in getting a Vita.
Not just for that but also for Rogue Legacy and The Binding of Isaac:Rebirth on the go. The thing is, memory cards for that thing ain't cheap and there are no aftermarket brands either so my question is:

If I wanna get a used Vita, which model should I be on the look out for (since there's 2 AFAIK), what other cool indie games are available for it or games worth playing at all?
If I wanna purchase a bigger memory card, which place is sells them the cheapest?
Should I hack it if I end up buying it with an older firmware? Will I be able to play it online without compromising my PSN account or console?

Thanks in advance.

Well if you just want to play PS Vita games I recommend the PS TV easily mainly since it now has USB support for storage and is over all cheaper

The model 1000, the OLED kind, in my opinion are the best kind. The model 2000s with the LCD screens look cheap.

You have other indies like Shovel Knight, Steamworld Dig, Spelunky, Va11Ha11a is being ported soon, Terraria, Bastion, Minecraft, and many more. On the non indie side of things, you have all the HD collections of the PS2 first party IPs, like God of War, Sly, Ratchet, and Jak collections. In terms of exclusive Vita games you have Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, Ys: Celceta, Tales of Hearts, and most importantly, Persona 4 Golden. If you don't have a PS3/4, you can play Odin Sphere Leiftrasir, Danganronpa, Steins;Gate, Gravity Rush, 999/VLR/ZTD, and the Atelier series on the go.

PlayAsia used to have good deals, but that was about two or so years ago. Might want to just try Amazon used resellers?

Firmware 3.60 and below means you can hack the Vita, play your totally legal and legit backups (of any game that was before fw 3.61), as well as have emulators, and native PSP and PS1 support.

Sounds like my cup of tea, but how would PSN work with the console being modified?

Syncing trophies is hit or miss, (not certain if it bans people or not, there's no full confirmation) and as far as I know, by the time you get one, the PSN spoofing will no longer work, as it's due to go out at any moment. I think you'd be able to play online, as I have without issue, but anything else PSN-related is a slippery slope.

Anyone got banned recently from spoofing?

Temporary IP bans from syncing trophies, but that was when the spoof was active about a few months ago. Recently, a chunk of people were temp IP banned again, but it was due to a PlayStation Near (a cheesy useless app that no one needs anymore) causing issues, and not anything related to the spoof. I don't keep myself too well informed on the Vita scene these days, but I'm sure if there was any ban waves, the Vita section here would be rife with threads.

I would and that was my idea but I can't let my PS4 game play itself when I need to go to the bathroom :P

Well then, time to get a Vita.

Actually, that's just a theory from a dude on Reddit that wololo reported on. Not saying that it's wrong, but there are reasons to question it. I've been doing a lot of research today since my Vita'll arrive any day now (Thanks again @endoverend!)

All bans that I've seen reported were all IP bans, so at least people aren't getting console or account banned at the moment. Yes some say that it was Near that was causing it. The theory is that when you spoof your firmware, the app sends hundreds of pings to Sony, who then IP bans you to prevent a DDoS. But several people who reported being banned never used the app and have all the apparently problematic settings disabled. So that may be a factor, but not THE factor.

Another set of people say that it happened when they sync trophy information with games that they don't own. But then others counter the argument by saying that only cheaters or those who sync trophies with digital only games get banned. Their theory is that Sony can't tell the difference between a dumped game and a physical game (and I'm not an expert, but who's to say that these games don't have something like the headers that 3DS games have?)

Finally, I saw a guy mention earlier that he was IP banned for using remote play while spoofed to 3.65. Apparently, he wasn't playing any pirated games at all. But who knows, maybe it was Near that caused him problems as well and not the remote play.

Personally, I don't know what to think. Perhaps Sony can tell when you're spoofing your firmware?

Get it cause you want it? Why else should you get one? If you don't want one, don't get one, simple. :P

I got one cause i been waiting over 4 years for phantasy star online 2 which i guess will never come. :glare:

But there some good games including ps3/ps4 ports of games to the system, and some great exclusives like ys memories of celestia, tales of heart R and Uncharted golden abyss. I'm sure there is more exclusives, but i haven't found ones i am interested in, I have more games i bought but can't play cause of file size storage but persona golden is one of them which i got by accident cause i thought it was the arc system works fighting game port from console so my mistake.

I used to laugh at the Vita but it sure has a great library and henkaku and adrenaline made it an easy purchase. First I got one that had scratches and marks on the screen, then I got one that was flawless and set it all up. THEN a few days later I saw a dude selling a white 1000 cheap and that had a screen protector on since day 1 so it was also flawless and I had to buy it. I did and now I have two perfectly scratch free oled vitas, one white and one black and a third I could throw in the river.
