I am trying to find a way to swap some New Leaf BGM with GCN music. I know there were other threads about it but those use the old braindump hans method...It's 2017 however and i'm not sure if there are other ways to change a 3ds game bgm such as New Leaf considering it's updated. Any help would be appreciated. Trying to hopefully make it happen since the old method is not working.

It's entirely possible with Luma 7.0's new layeredfs feature. I just tested this and as a test, replaced the title screen music with the one from GCN. As long as you have CFW it will work. PM me if you want instructions and if you have CFW.

Using the HANS method won't work because HANS doesn't read game updates and as such, any Welcome amiibo save files won't work on normal ACNL games.

I definitely would love to know how to do this. I love the GCN versions soundtrack so much

Pre-reqs:
-3DS system with CFW and Luma v7.0+
If your game icon looks like this (
.eJwFwdENhCAMANBdGIDGcrToNg0SNEEgtPd1ud197-e-q7nDXWZTD4Dz1jzW6dXGklp8HaO2IvNWn8cDYib5eko3hS3RJzHHGCIxEW4JkIl3DEwBkRLtTCC5Nz97df8XoaUhkw.P6Z5XcvGXdpfURVgyOt13yhQT1I
), use the title ID that matches your game's region:
US: 0004000000086300
EU: 0004000000086400
JP: 0004000000086200

If your game icon looks like this (

), use the title ID that matches your game's region:
US: 0004000000198E00
EU: 0004000000198F00
JP: 0004000000198D00

1. On your SD card, open your luma folder and create a titles folder. If you already have it, skip this step.
2. Make a folder called TITLEID. Replace TITLEID with the title ID of the region of the game that you are using. The title IDs can be found above.
3. In that folder, make a folder called romfs. In that folder make a folder called Sound. In that folder make a folder called stream. The final path should look like this: SD:/luma/titles/TITLEID/romfs/Sound/stream.
4. Go to this page of smashcustommusic.com.
5. For this example, we'll replace the title theme. Scroll down and click on the Title theme (not Title (Reorchestrated)).
6. Find where it says "Download BCSTM" and click on it.
7. Find where it downloaded Title.bcstm and move that to your stream folder.
8. Rename that to STRM_BGM_TITLE.bcstm. Make sure that you have file extensions enabled and that you don't have .bcstm.bcstm.
9. Open your Luma settings and enable "Enable game patching".
10. Start New Leaf and, of course, turn your volume up. The title theme from ACGC should be playing.

I'm working on a list of file names for all of the sound files in ACNL and ACNL: Welcome amiibo and I need to match the names up with the file name. That will take awhile, but for now, enjoy this .txt file for the files names. Some of the names are kinda obvious what they go to in game.

If you want me to find what a specific file name is called, tell me what you are looking for and I'll try to find it.

Thank you so much! seems pretty straight forward. Is there a tool recommended for making your own BCSTM files?

You can use the tools found in this thread and see if they work. I used them to convert a song for Sun/Moon and it turned out well. And it is a pretty straightforward process.
AH Kunoichi a god send as always!! Will this work alongside NTR?
It does actually! I just tested this!

If you replace the title screen theme, I've noticed a little longer of a loading time when you first boot the game.

Is it possible to port the SFX too?

Very quickly, is this method the same for any other game such as Smash, or Pokemon etc?

Maybe..? If you can, I don't know the file names for the SFX, unless those names are included in the .txt I uploaded before.

Essentially yes, but you have to find the file names for the songs for both of those games and for any other game. For Sun/Moon, I have a list of some of the important songs here.

The new layeredfs feature in Luma 7.0's update is just an easier way of playing with ROM hacks and you don't have to run NTR each and every time.

If you could do so, would you figure them out please? If not, that's fine too. The BGM is good enough.
I don't have the time now, but I may run across them when I try to figure out which song is which in that list. I don't know when that will be as I have a college paper to write. That may be sometime next week, or even the week after.

I'm fine with waiting for long periods of time. It just means that greater amounts of gratification will come. I can wait.

whelp time for me to find what goes to what LOL
Some of them, such as the outdoor themes, are kind of obvious what they belong to. Some need some trial and error to figure out. If someone wants to help compile a list of what goes with what, that would be helpful.

I'll try to help with that once I organize. I'm familiar with some of the themes and the bgm of new leaf is available on smashcustom music so it might match up with most of the listed tracks in the document. I'll try to make a list with things matched up.
