No bashing here. I simply am hoping to hear what reasons there are if any would someone stick with it. I've never owned any 3DS flashcarts, only owned flashcarts for the DS generation since custom firmware wasnt really an option at the time.

The one and only benefit I can think of why people would stay with Gateway is because of its ease of use. I never used a Gateway flashcart but I would imagine its as simple as sticking the 3DS roms into the microSD, into the flashcart and just playing your games right away where someone with just a 3DS has to follow a 30+ min guide on installing arm9loader+Luma3DS to be set up.

The only other reasoning I can think of is the sunk cost theory in which the user insists on sticking with their purchase in order to feel like they gotten their monies worth.

I personally don't give a shit what someone else runs on their 3ds.
I prefer luma/a9lh but give no fucks if someone enjoys Gateway instead.
I'm not here to bash any Gateway users or harass them into using custom firmware. If anything I just want to hear their side of the story and convince me what makes it so good and worth it to stick with it. When it really comes down to it I dont care what others use either.

I personally owned a gateway, and I stuck with it even after installing a9lh and luma. I had it paired to one of the buttons. for me, it was ease of use. I had all my games there, and I didn't need to install them and nothing extra was needed. I eventually ditched gateway for a reason I can't recall. I didn't like having to convert all my games and saves to cia format though. maybe that's another reason I stuck with it for so long.

The reason I still use mine is mostly because of ease of use, and because I've always preferred keeping my legit purchases separate from my "backups" (yarr)
At this point I already have almost all my games in .3DS format so it just makes sense to keep using the Gateway rather than have to redownload or convert all my games, and go through the ordeal of dumping and reinjecting all my saves.

Now everyone is saying gateway sucks (and it does compared to arm9loaderhax) but i remeber when everyone just spammed about pokemon x/y support, when everyone refreshed their website every 5 seconds in christmas and when a lot of users in this forum asked beta testers to leak the private beta :rofl2:
Some features i like are:
1. Its a plug and play device
2. You can create cheats
3. You can have even more memory (128/64 gb in the red card and 128/64 gb in the console)
4. They were the first ones to give us piracy :tpi:
5. Its a good choice if you dont want to set up arm9 or a cfw in every single console

I still have mine but i always use luma since i it doesnt requires the red card to be inserted every single time you turn on your 3ds, i am to lazy to set arm9 in my other 3 consoles so i just use the red card when i want to use multiplayer

yeah, I lost one game save in the 50 or so games/saves I converted - my etrian odyssey 4 save. it's my favorite game on the system too. I wasn't too far into the game though, so that's okay. the save wouldn't work with gateway anymore either, so I don't know what happened.

Gateway still has a better solution for cheat creation, however, actual cheat menus in game are better in NTR. Ease of use isn't any better than any other A9LH CFW. Some people who've had their red cards for a while still use it purely because it works and they don't feel like converting saves or cia's. Despite what a lot of noobs will have you think, Gateway used to get shilled to death here, along with Sky3ds for people who updated past 9.2 lol. I don't personally use mine anymore, although the blue card is a decent ds flashcard. I still wonder what happened to the lady with red nail polish

Because they need to justify their waste of money and can't stand other people enjoying better community tools for free.
This holier-than-thou attitude is why we can never have nice things.

It's probably the same as why some people stick with MenuHax or still use EmuNand or anything else older than the A9LH+Luma combo. It works well enough. And it's not like we are tied for life once a decision is made. Heck, we can even have multiple at the same time. It's like my GBA. I can emulate it perfectly fine on my computer and then some. VBA has that spacebar speedup and multiple save states and I never have to worry about batteries. But I still do use my good ol' GBA. Call it sunk cost fallacy if you really must though I'd disagree. I'd gotten more than my money's worth from early access if nothing else. The same can be said of my OG PlayStation. Or my old DS flashcarts before I got a DSTwo. Or some of my shirts and sweaters. There's just nothing wrong with not using the bleeding edge latest thingamabob.

All of my 3DS's and those belonging to my friends have A9LH and Luma, but I and all the people that I hooked up w/ GW's and an entry point back in the day still use theirs (even though I've A9LH/Luma'ed almost all of them). For the "noobs" it's what they know, they fear using the FreeShop and/or some other things I'm sure. For me...

As mentioned the cheat engine is one reason. Just about anyone can at least peek and poke values w/ it, and you don't have to be all that much more clever to create actual codes w/ it either. Plus finding values and editing them on the fly is great. Not every game has codes pre-made for you and not every value you want to manipulate is available as a code for even the games that do have pre-made codes published on "th3 webz".

Another is the increased capacity gained by using a GW for less money (if you already have one of course). I can pretty easily pick up a reliably branded 64GB mSD for around $20 in my town or on-line (I can find one on sale almost every time I need/want to buy one), trusted 128GB cards tend to cost $70 and up on-line and can almost never be sourced locally (for me) for less than $100. So my common situation is $40 for 128GB's and I can get it today, $70 or more and I wait to have it shipped or I take it in the shorts an pay $100 or more and get it today.

Portability between 3DS's by just swapping the cart is a plus (I have 3 of them in my house). Speaking of, own a N3DS? It's a minor inconvenience, but one none the less, to remove the back plate to get to the mSD on one. It's nice to not have to do that or use the 3DS's slow ass WiFi and FTP to install a game I just want to test out or play occasionally. And back to storage, you don't have to have enough space for a CIA file AND enough space to install the game to use it on GW. Drag and drop is great if you're like me...

The FreeShop is great, and maybe so is that ISO site (I'm not a member, I get my warez mostly off of Usenet), but I'm a scene release collector and a bit of a purist. I collect every US release and some exclusive non-US releases... Meaning I've already downloaded and stored just about anything in the 3DS's (or any other platform I own) library that I would want to play... And sadly a bunch of crap I don't like Imagine/Bratz/etc games (I TOLD YOU I'm a collector :)). Scene releases for the 3DS are always .3DS files. Even things exclusive to the eShop are released as .3DS files, not .CIA's. W/ a GW I don't have to convert them to CIA's so I can then install them, waste time re-downloading them via FreeShop or other means... Or store two copies of the same software as both so I can avoid the conversion and keep my scene releases as they were released. I keep duplicate copies of patched and original scene released games for things like the GBA and DS as they're much smaller, but not multi-gigabyte software like on the 3DS.

Don't get me wrong I use the Freeshop (mostly for smaller things) and install CIA's, but it's either because the title is small in size or it's something I already know I'm going to play the hell out of and want on my home screen and off my GW. The GW is a battery sucking pig, so if it's my current "main go to" game I've likely installed it to the 3DS proper rather than just using it on my GW. If it's something I just want to test or play occasionally/rarely it goes on my GW for sure.

I use it for the cheat system. It's so much easier and more convenient than NTR. I personally don't need all of these features that Luma and other CFWs offer. I play my games with no problems.

Validation of flushing away $80

It was $60 when I got mine in late 2014. It's not a waste of money given the time I've had it. If I bought it say 2016, right before A9LH installation came to my attention, then yeah, waste of money. If anything, it may get a rebirth in using it again, but I doubt it. The last hope for it was exclusive cheats, but the juicier ones have been converted for NTR (Pokemon SM at least), so, it just collects dust. And really, I don't know if it can run with A9LH 11.4 CFW, I never bothered finding that out.
