Updating Windows 10 to the Creators Update Not Working

Hello,

So I am using my computer, which works fine now , and I want to update it to the new Creators update, But when trying to use Media Creation Tool and Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant, when it is close to finishing it brings up an error. [I don't remember the error. Something like 0x...].

Is there a way I could manually update it like through an ISO or something?

This is very much a repeat of what happened before with previous W10 upgrades, and I think it comes down to servers being drowned in upgrade requests and messing up the downloads. This is why they try to stagger the upgrades using a ticketing system (e.g my devices haven't prompted to upgrade yet, where as my friend who lives a couple blocks away has).

I don't know if the media creation tool will get the newest version of W10. I'll try looking it up when I get home from work.

One potential fix seems to be deleting/rename the "$WINDOWS. ~ BT" hidden folder in the root of the C: drive.

You need to enable viewing hidden folders to see this.

Obviously take care and not confuse it with any other folder e.g. Windows.

Thanks for the help! Changing the name of the folder by adding "old" to it actually worked! It just finished downloading the updates and now it restarted to finish working on updates.

Hopefully this helps other people in the same situation. I've been trying to update in the last 2 days.

Disabling ads isn't an option. What *is* an option is disabling "personalized" ads. AFAIK this only applies to ad-supported Windows Store apps.

I haven't gone out of my way to disable ANY ads and I still don't see any... Granted there may have been the occasional one, but if so they're so unobtrusive to be unmemorable.

That being said, i use the Update Assistant to force updates: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Hopefully we never have to do this again, since the Creators Update brought us differential updating.

I was able to complete the update so I don't need anymore help.
