So, are any of you going on holiday and where? What's it like there (if you've been there before)? And where would your dream place to go on holidays be?

Well, next Friday (14th April), I'm going to be going to the Isle of Wight like I do every year, for a week in a caravan park. It's really nice over there and apparently one of the best spots in the UK for sunny weather. ^^

Don't really know where I'd like to go on a dream holiday since I don't think I could comprehend learning another language, sadly. Besides, IOW is a nice place as it is. :)

I live in the north of Australia where flying to South East Asia is cheaper than flying domestically within my own country. I also have the luxury of working in the mining sector which grants me 14 days off per month.

Lot's of paid time off + proximity to Asia = Me travelling almost monthly :)

Vietnam and Philippines are next on my list, I've done Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia/Bali already. Slowly crossing off each country :)

Also i plan to return to South America later in the year, as I've only done Peru in the past, would love to see more of it, it's just so far to fly from the eastern hemisphere!

Last year I did a big trip. Went to New York, Washington, France and Monaco. Had been to France before, and the West coast of the US but not the east coast or Monaco. I didn't like New York, there was too much rubbish everywhere on the streets (don't they realise you can get kerbside bins and have a truck that can pick them up automatically?) and it smelled so bad. And it was annoying on the boat to the Statue of Liberty when there was a stand selling water with a sign saying $1.25 or something, and I get my money and go to buy one, and they say "that'll be $1.47" or something. Can't you just advertise with tax included??? Wouldn't it also be easier to not need to spend 20 seconds per customer counting out 1c coins for their change? You could make the price a round $1.50 and eliminate that. Here in Australia we got rid of 1c and 2c coins when I was a child. Silly thing to get annoyed about but there you are. Also on the bus tours the guide kept mentioning tips, like every third sentence. Why don't you just charge a few dollars extra and concentrate on your job instead of asking for more money?? You could charge more extra than the typical tip and your customers would be happy getting what they paid for instead of a constant guilt trip. It was cool seeing the 30 Rock building though since I like that show. And I liked walking around Times Square. I liked Washington, I think because it reminded me of Canberra where I live. Plus there was a great Cafe near where I was staying that did waffles so I ate there every morning. Hard to find waffles where I live! And everyone there was relaxed and pleasant.

Earlier last year I also went on a 10-night cruise which was really nice. I loved Mystery Island, Lifou and Isle of Pines (saw heaps of sea turtles just snorkelling near the beach, it was so amazing) but Noumea and Port Vila weren't so good (they had big cities on them).

I know you asked about upcoming holidays but I probably won't be going on another holiday for a year or two so I wrote about my recent ones instead.

I've never gone on a holiday abroad, but I've traveled for a few days on weekends and such.
I've been to Cologne in Germany, meeting a forum friend and went to a concert when the Japanese band envy played. Was amazing!

Then I've been to Barcelona for a few days. I loved that city and it's people.

And I've been to Åland (which is technically Finland).

My dream is to go to Japan (whoa, what a surprise) lol

I like to go to the beaches of North Carolina when I get to choose. It's nostalgic for me. We used to go there when I was very small. It's a little escape for me. But I think this year we are going on a cruise. Luckily I was able to convince the wife and family that I would rather head north on a cruiseliner so we can get fresh crab and white fish. But I have a feeling I will start looking like Snorlax.

Hell. Could use the warmer weather.

Actually, no idea, I suppose next holiday I go to Japan, perhaps some Tokyo, a bit of Kyoto and some Kagoshima.
When?... Perhaps September? No idea (very good at planning I see)

I get you, everytime I fly to Argentina it is a PITA and I think I can still feel the shape of the plane chair for hours after disemarking.

I go to Bulgaria. I sort of veto'ed Turkey (this was about a month before they started calling everyone in the EU nazi's, but well after the coup and Erdogan locking up everyone who agrees less than 100% with him), but my girlfriend insisted on the region...

Man I would love to visit Japan... My bf says he doesn't ever want to visit Asia though :-( I think he's thinking in terms of tropical locations full of bogan Aussie tourists though, not the culture and elegance capital of the world, Japan.

Last time I was in Turkey I swore never to come back, and it wasn't about they calling me a Nazi or anything, but about theft waiting to happen in every corner. Not safe.

I flew Sydney to Santiago direct, it was 12.5 hours. Longest i spent inside an aircraft before that was my home town in Aus to Singapore 4.5 hours, and that was long enough for me!

As somebody who has lived in Asia for 3 years in the past, the international Aussie bogan pandemic isn't as bad as it's made out to be in the media.... I will admit though, I've seen some very questionable behaviour from our countrymen in other countries. Really makes you disappointed that the best country in the world is being represented by the lowest common denominator :(

Probably to Japan again but not sure as me and my gf were talking about maybe visiting another asian country like thailand or china, maybe even south Korea even thought it might not be the best time right now ...

Still not sure but I am missing Japan a lot so maybe we will split it up to go 1-2 weeks to ? and 1-2 to Japan

( went to Japan every year for the past 5 years )

And yeah there are lots of Americans or Australians (who knows) that behave very bad ! even though the Chinese are much worse.

Well not so much for Vietnam yet as I have a Vietnamese friend who told me that it is even dangerous for him leaving the tourist places as there are lots of poor people who would gladly take all your money or more if you don't cooperate ^^V
he was taken hostage by some Vietnamese because they knew he was living in Germany and thought he might have money ... so some girl tricked him into driving her home and when they arrived she told him to come with her to her room only to get him captured by her friends ... after two days his family paid a few euros (not much though) and they let him go but still frightening story

Aww, that sucks, i'm sorry your friend had a bad experience. You really do need to travel smart and keep your wits about you though southeast asia, it's not for everybody, thats for sure!

My girlfriend is Vietnamese and spends her time between Aus and Vietnam, i usually go over for a few weeks when her family visa to Aus run out. Maybe I was just lucky because I've got a local taking care of me :P

During my time living in Thailand, i was scammed out of 30,000 THB (about $1000 AUD at the time) by police. Unfortunately, when you're a guest in a foreign country, there's not much you can do except pay up....

For my vacation since I live here in America... I always travel to Europe including our home - Portugal and anywhere in Europe. Disliked vacation in America in 50 state.. Too many fast foods anywhere and beers and wine are expensive. Western Europe is my choice to travel all the time.

I came from Portugal (Azores). The beers is only 60-80 euro cent and wine is only 40 euro cent in Portugal. Restaurants are between 5.00 euro to 12.00 euro like home made as tradition. Coffee.. oh my gosh.. tasty and only 50 euro cent. Cappuccino is only 1.00 euro. Delicious!

I go to Singapore about once a year to visit my dad who lives there. Don't travel much otherwise.
Other places I've been to are Indonesia, Thailand, Spain, Greece, France. Oh and Denmark and Sweden but I don't really count those because they're so close and they're pretty much the same as Norway. That's pretty much all of them.

I'd like to go to Japan and US/Canada once. Japan to experience the culture and such (and eat tasty food) and US/Canada just because it's English-speaking and they have lots of delicious (junk) food. Plus all the interesting conventions/trade shows happen in US and there's a bunch of them I'd like to go to like CES and E3, maybe some day.

This year I plan to go to NY, Cali, Puerto Rico and MAYBE Africa (BIG MAYBE).

Depends on how much time I can get off work in the few months.
